Job Description

The Youth Flag Football Official is responsible for officiating youth flag football games in a safe, fair, and positive manner. This position promotes sportsmanship, player development, and a fun recreational experience while enforcing league rules and maintaining control of the game environment. Officials serve as representatives of the Parks & Recreation Department and are expected to demonstrate professionalism, sound judgment, and strong communication skills when interacting with players, coaches, parents, and spectators. Officiate youth flag football games in accordance with league rules and established program standards. Enforce game rules consistently and fairly while maintaining the integrity of competition. Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and positive participant behavior throughout all games. Communicate rule interpretations, penalties, and game decisions clearly and professionally. Maintain control of the playing environment and address unsportsmanlike conduct when necessary. Ensure participant safety by monitoring game conditions and responding appropriately to incidents or concerns. Serve as a positive role model for youth participants and contribute to an enjoyable recreational experience. Work cooperatively with coaches, players, spectators, and Parks & Recreation staff. Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge of football rules, game mechanics, and officiating principles. Ability to make quick decisions and remain composed under pressure. Ability to effectively manage conflicts and maintain control of game situations. Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment. Ability to create a positive environment focused on learning, participation, and sportsmanship. Games are typically held on Saturday mornings and Tuesday and Thursday evenings during the fall youth flag football season beginning in September.
