Scheduled primarily for evening and weekend games based on league and facility needs. Position Overview The Youth Baseball Umpire is responsible for officiating youth baseball games in a safe, fair, professional, and consistent manner. This role requires a strong understanding of baseball rules, confident decision-making, effective communication, and the ability to manage game flow while creating a positive experience for youth athletes. The Youth Baseball Umpire will enforce applicable league and facility rules, maintain control of games, communicate with players and coaches, address conflicts professionally, and help ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for players, families, and guests. Role Scope & Responsibilities Game Officiating & Rule Enforcement - 40% Officiate youth baseball games according to applicable league and facility rules. Make accurate and confident calls involving balls and strikes, outs, safe/out decisions, fair/foul balls, and other game situations. Apply league rules consistently across all games and age divisions. Keep games moving efficiently and enforce applicable time limits. Maintain control of the game while promoting good sportsmanship and fair play. Player, Coach & Guest Experience - 25% Clearly communicate calls, decisions, and rule interpretations to players and coaches. Treat players, coaches, spectators, and staff with professionalism and respect. Maintain composure and professionalism during disagreements or emotionally charged situations. Handle conflicts calmly and appropriately while maintaining control of the game. Serve as a positive representative of the league and facility. Safety & Game Readiness - 15% Arrive on time and prepared for all scheduled games. Inspect the playing area before games and report safety concerns or facility issues. Prioritize player safety throughout each game. Follow applicable facility safety procedures and emergency protocols. Report injuries, significant incidents, ejections, or unusual situations to the Baseball Manager or appropriate league leadership. Communication & Collaboration - 10% Work effectively with other umpires, league staff, baseball staff, and facility teammates. Communicate relevant game situations, incidents, and concerns promptly. Support consistent application of league standards across games and teams. Professionalism & Administrative Responsibilities - 10% Maintain reliable attendance and punctuality for all assigned games. Follow scheduling and facility procedures. Complete required game reports or incident documentation accurately and promptly. Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor while representing the baseball program. Qualifications & Experience Strong understanding of baseball rules and game situations. Previous playing, coaching, or umpiring experience preferred but not required. Ability to confidently make and communicate decisions in a fast-paced environment. Strong communication and conflict-resolution skills. Dependable, punctual, and professional. Comfortable working with youth athletes, coaches, parents, and spectators. Ability to remain calm and professional during disagreements or challenging situations. Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move around the field for extended periods. Availability to work scheduled evening and/or weekend games. Preferred Experience Previous youth baseball umpiring experience. Baseball playing or coaching background. Familiarity with different youth baseball age divisions and league rules. Previous experience working with children or youth sports programs.
