Program Coordinator Position Summary:
The Softball Umpire is responsible for officiating adult coed, men's, and women's softball league games in a fair, professional, and consistent manner. Umpires will enforce league rules, maintain game control, ensure participant safety, and promote good sportsmanship throughout the season.
Key Responsibilities:
Officiate adult softball league games in accordance with league and USA Softball rules Make accurate and impartial calls during games Maintain control of games and handle conflicts professionally Ensure player safety and enforce sportsmanship standards Arrive on time and prepared for scheduled games Communicate effectively with players, coaches, scorekeepers, and recreation staff Inspect fields and equipment prior to games when necessary Report incidents, injuries, ejections, or concerns to recreation staff Assist with field preparation and cleanup as needed Serve as a positive representative of the
Recreation Department Qualifications:
Knowledge of softball rules and game mechanics preferred. Previous umpiring or playing experience preferred but not required. Ability to remain calm and make decisions under pressure. Strong communication and conflict resolution skills. Must be dependable, punctual, and professional. Must be at least 16 years old. Must pass background check and drug test.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous umpiring experience Previous softball playing or coaching experience Experience working in recreation or sports programs
Work Schedule:
Seasonal Hours may include mornings, afternoons, and/or evenings depending on program needs
Compensation:
$35 per game
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand and move for extended periods of time Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions Ability to maintain focus and react quickly during gameplay
