Job Description

Jefferson County Extension is seeking an intern with an interest in Family and Consumer Sciences Extension Education. The internship will focus on three major areas: Master Food Safety Advisor volunteer program, 4-H youth development and have opportunities to engage in a variety of FCS extension education. This internship is for college students at Idaho public colleges and universities, to increase their skills in teaching, research analysis, and educational program development. The intern will work directly with Extension Educator Deanna Poulsen to support high-priority programs in Family and Consumer Sciences. Major Projects & Responsibilities Depending on the intern?s major and field of study, responsibilities and projects may include the following:
Food Preservation:
Addressing misinformation regarding food preservation, locating and distributing research-based materials and education to the community, tracking and analyzing survey data from program evaluations.
Food Safety & Nutrition:
Education in public school settings that addresses handwashing and community education needs.
Master Food Preserver Volunteer Coordination:
Creating and managing volunteer hour opportunities and special events for the Master Food Preserver program.
Youth Financial Literacy:
co-teaching youth financial literacy programming in public school settings.
Day Camp Coordination:
Assisting in the planning, logistics, and implementation of FCS-related 4-H Day camps.
Multimedia Production:
Assisting with the production and editing of educational videos focused on food preservation/safety, and 4-H sewing tutorials.
Position Requirements & Deliverables Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
Reliable transportation to and from office site in Rigby. Physical ability to lift, carry and/or otherwise move up to 50 pounds to load supplies and equipment to multiple program sites when scheduled. Flexible scheduling within a maximum of 160 hours, up to 35 hours per week (no overtime), occasional evening and weekend educational opportunities.
Final Report:
Upon conclusion of the internship, the intern is required to submit a final report (maximum two pages) to both the District Director and the Director of Extension.
The report must include:
Accomplishments and challenges. Recommendations and knowledge gained. Student?s university, college, major, and permission to be quoted in Extension materials.
