Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
The YMCA is a prominent nonprofit organization committed to enhancing community well-being through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Program instructor furthers the mission of YMCA Camp Bernie through the development and delivery of Outdoor Education and recreational activities that safe, fun, and appropriate to the participants' ages and abilities. On site living in a shared staff house, individual rooms with shared common spaces and restrooms. Meals provided when groups are on site. Our season starts officially on August 17th and runs through November 15th. We happily welcome staff to start earlier or join our team of dedicated winter programming staff and stay later.
JOB FUNCTION
Implement curriculum by teaching established programs to groups. Facilitate Outdoor Education and Group and Family programs as assigned. Attend trainings to broaden knowledge and enhance teaching skills. Attend periodic staff meetings to troubleshoot and plan for incoming groups. Assist with maintaining program areas as needed. Work positively with other departments to create and maintain a healthy community at camp. Run evening programs as determined by group requests Prepare programs, set-up and breakdown program areas for Outdoor Education groups. Maintain the established level of quality for function, safety, and appearance of program areas and program supplies by performing the following functions: Make necessary minor repairs on program facilities and supplies notifying the Program Coordinator. Assist in general maintenance and upkeep of camp facilities, including but not limited to the following: Assist in cleaning the on site facilities as necessary. Maintain the established level of overall safety of the camp and its facilities by doing the following: Notify the Program Coordinator of any unsafe circumstances within a specific facility. Follow established safety procedures. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Experience working with children. Appreciation of outdoors and human diversity. Preferred College credits in environmental studies, recreation and leisure services or related field or relevant experience. Bachelor's degree in environmental studies, recreation and leisure services or related field. Work experience in outdoor education setting i.e. residential camp, nature center
