Youth Development Services Westwood, NJ Job Details Part-time $17 - $19 an hour 1 hour ago Qualifications First aid Camp Full Job Description Position Overview The Kids Cooking Instructor is responsible for planning and leading engaging, hands-on cooking activities for campers ages 4-12. The instructor will create a fun, safe, and educational environment where children can develop basic cooking skills, learn about nutrition, explore new foods, and build confidence in the kitchen. Activities should be age-appropriate, interactive, and designed to encourage creativity, teamwork, and healthy habits. Key Responsibilities Plan and lead daily or weekly cooking activities for campers. Prepare lesson plans, recipes, and supply lists prior to each session. Teach basic cooking techniques, kitchen safety, food handling, and nutrition concepts. Ensure all activities are age-appropriate, engaging, and hands-on. Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary cooking environment. Monitor food allergies and dietary restrictions and ensure compliance with camp policies. Supervise campers at all times and maintain a safe learning environment. Encourage participation, creativity, teamwork, and positive behavior. Set up and clean up all materials, ingredients, and equipment before and after activities. Communicate supply needs and program updates to camp leadership. Collaborate with camp staff to integrate cooking activities into camp themes and special events. Qualifications Experience working with children in a camp, school, childcare, or recreational setting. Experience in cooking, culinary arts, food education, or a related field preferred. Strong classroom and behavior management skills. Ability to engage and motivate children of varying ages and abilities. Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices. Reliable, organized, energetic, and professional. CPR/First Aid Certification preferred (or willingness to obtain). Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds. Ability to actively supervise and engage with campers throughout the day. Desired Characteristics Passion for cooking and teaching children. Creative and enthusiastic personality.
