Instructors for specialty/elective area(s) are NOT required to have current state certification. In addition, Summer Instructors are responsible for attending an in-service training workshop prior to the start of the summer program. Reports To Upward Bound Assistant Director What position(s) reports to this position? None Minimum Education/Experience Applicants for the position of Elective Instructor in Upward Bound Summer programs must hold at least a Bachelor's degree in specialty/elective course subject or a closely related field, along with a valid Oklahoma State Teaching Certification specifically in specialty/elective course subject or a closely related subject area. OR Applicants for the Elective Instructor position must possess a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and demonstrate at least two years of teaching experience in specialty/elective or a closely related field. OR Applicants for the Elective Instructor position must have completed a Master's degree comprising at least 18 credit hours in the designated specialty area. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Excellent written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to work as team members. Demonstrated ability to use technology to develop exciting, multidisciplinary content. Previous experience working with high school students preferred. Positive interpersonal skills to effectively relate to students who are first generation, low socioeconomic individuals. Physical Demands/Working Conditions 1.
GENERAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Sedentary work: The person in this position may occasionally exert up to 10 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. 2.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES
This position requires the person to frequently move about the classroom and other areas to assist students and perform the essential functions of the position. This position requires the person to frequently communicate with and listen to students, administration, faculty, staff, and others to perform the essential functions of the position. Must be able to exchange accurate information in various situations. This position requires the person to frequently remain in a standing and stationary position. This position frequently requires the person to operate a computer and other office or classroom equipment to perform the essential functions of the position. This position requires the person to use upper and lower body to exert force up to 10 pounds to push or pull materials or equipment. 3.
VISUAL ACUITY
This position requires the person to judge, observe and assess the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned or to make general observations. 4.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position performs the essential functions in an indoor classroom or office setting. Preferred Qualifications None Required Training Instructors must attend in-service training workshop(s) prior to the start of the summer program. In addition, instructors must complete quarterly health and safety training pursuant to OCCC's established safety and health procedures and practices. Work Hours Each instructor will receive a designated work schedule for each of the specialty area(s). Classes are held Monday through Thursday, typically between the hours of 8:30am and 3:30pm. Class periods are approximately one hour and fifteen minutes in length. Start times, end times, and duration of class periods are subject to change prior to the first day of classes. Special events may be held Monday through Thursday.
