Job Description

The Division of Laboratory Animal Resources (DLAR) at the University of Pittsburgh has an opening for a laboratory animal veterinarian at the Senior Clinical Veterinarian (Clinical Assistant Professor) level. Responsibilities include 1) provision of vet care and research support to a variety of species according to current practices, regulations, and standards; 2) oversight of technical staff; 3) providing guidance to research personnel; 4) personnel training; 5) effective communication and collaboration; 6) oversight and direction to at least one component of the vet care program (Sr. Clinical Vet); 7) develop, implement, and update practices and procedures (Sr. Clinical Vet); 8) participation on the IACUC; 9) participation in on-call rotation. Relevant training, experience, and skills: 1) veterinary medical degree from an AVMA accredited veterinary college or ECFVG certification; 2) veterinary licensure in at least one state, preferably PA; 3) two years' laboratory animal experience is preferred, or at least 3 years of private practice experience (Clinical Vet); OR completion of an ACLAM-approved training program plus minimum 3 years lab animal experience, or at least 6 years' lab animal experience without a training program; other board certifications may be considered (Sr. Clinical Vet); 4) ACLAM Diplomate or eligibility to sit for the exam (Sr. Clinical Vet); 5) Prior staff oversight experience (Sr. Clinical Vet).
