Job Description

School Overview:
Pee Dee Innovation & Leadership Academy (PDILA) is a tuition-free, high-quality, public charter school authorized by the South Carolina Public Charter School District. It opened in August 2025. Our mission is to empower students to transcend traditional boundaries and become world-class learners. We are committed to fostering a safe, dynamic learning environment that cultivates curiosity, critical thinking, and a passion for lifelong learning. As a Leader in Me School and by providing innovative educational experiences, personalized mentorship, and cutting-edge resources, we aim to instill in students the skills, resilience, and adaptability needed to excel on a global stage.
Position Overview:
PDILA is seeking passionate and dedicated Elementary Teachers for grades 2 through 5 for the 2026-2027 school year. Teachers will play a crucial role in creating an inclusive and dynamic learning environment that encourages student growth and leadership. Under limited supervision, plans and presents innovative, developmentally appropriate opportunities for students to learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to the development of students' academic abilities.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Instruction & Curriculum Development Plan and implement engaging lesson plans aligned with South Carolina state standards and the school's chosen curriculum.
Develop a program of study that meets the needs, interests, and abilities of all students. Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals with clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects. Teach multiple disciplines as assigned while incorporating technology and entrepreneurial opportunities to enhance learning.
  • Classroom Environment & Student Engagement Create and maintain a positive, inclusive, and structured classroom environment appropriate to students' maturity and interests.
Utilize a variety of instructional strategies and media to meet diverse learning needs. Integrate Leader in Me principles into classroom culture and instruction. Develop reasonable classroom procedures and expectations, maintaining order in a fair and just manner.
  • Student Assessment & Data-Driven Instruction Assess, document, and analyze student progress regularly, providing feedback to students and parents. Maintain accurate records of student performance, grades, and assessments as required by law and school policy. Identify and report suspected learning or other disabilities to district specialists as appropriate.
  • Collaboration & Professional Development Participate in ongoing professional development, professional learning communities (PLCs), and staff training. Attend staff meetings and serve on committees to support school initiatives. Supervise and support teaching assistants, volunteers, and student organizations.
  • School & Community Engagement Foster strong relationships with parents, conducting parent-teacher conferences and facilitating parent education workshops. Engage with the broader school community to support a culture of inclusivity and leadership. Coordinate and participate in special programs, projects, and school events.
  • Administrative & Operational Duties Maintain inventory of classroom supplies and submit supply requisitions as needed.
Ensure student safety and well-being by monitoring activities and behavior as assigned. Arrange for substitute instructors when necessary. Operate various classroom technologies, including computers, printers, copiers, audio-visual equipment, and other instructional tools. Additional Duties May provide remedial assistance to individuals, small groups or entire classes of students as scheduled during or after regular school hours. Maintains a clean and orderly classroom. Performs related duties as required and assigned.
Attendance:
Attends and remains at work regularly and adheres to policies and procedures regarding absenteeism and tardiness. Provides adequate notice to higher management with respect to vacation time and leave requests.
Dependability:
Assumes responsibility for completing assigned work. Completes assigned work within deadlines in accordance with directives, policy, standards and prescribed procedures. Maintains accountability for assigned responsibilities in the technical, human and conceptual areas.
Quality of Work:
Maintains high standards of accuracy in exercising duties and responsibilities. Exercises immediate remedial action to correct any quality deficiencies that occur in areas of responsibility. Maintains high quality communication and interaction with internal and external entities with whom the position interacts.
Quantity of Work:
Performs described Key Responsibilities and related assignments efficiently and effectively in order to produce a quantity of work which consistently meets established standards and expectations. Relationships with

Shares knowledge with managers, supervisors and co-workers for mutual benefit. Contributes to maintaining high morale among all employees. Tactfully and effectively handles requests, suggestions and complaints in order to establish and maintain good will. Emphasizes the importance of maintaining a positive image.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Valid and current South Carolina teaching certificate in Elementary Education or eligibility for certification. Strong understanding of child development and best practices in elementary education. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Commitment to the mission, vision, and values of PDILA—as well as processes and procedures.
