Job Requirements:
Demonstrated Cultural Competency:
Ability to create and maintain an inclusive classroom environment that respects and celebrates diversity in all its forms, including race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, socio-economic background, and family structure. Experience in
Progressive Education:
A deep understanding of and commitment to progressive educational principles, including child-led learning, project-based learning, and holistic assessment approaches.
Effective Communication Skills:
Ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with children, families, and colleagues from diverse cultural backgrounds, fostering strong partnerships and collaboration.
Curriculum Development:
Experience in adapting existing curriculum and/or developing culturally responsive curriculum and lesson plans that reflect the diverse identities and experiences of our students, while meeting educational standards and goals.
Equity Advocacy:
A passion for equity and social justice in education, demonstrated through previous advocacy work or initiatives aimed at addressing systemic inequalities within educational settings.
Classroom Management Skills:
Proven ability to create a safe, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment where all children feel valued, respected, and empowered to learn and grow. A familiarity with Conscious Discipline is a plus!
Collaborative Leadership:
Strong leadership skills with a collaborative approach, including the ability to mentor and support assistant teachers, interns, and volunteers in promoting cultural competency and equity in the classroom. Commitment to
Professional Development:
Willingness to engage in ongoing professional development and training related to cultural competency, equity in education, and progressive teaching methodologies. Familiarity with
Anti-Bias Education:
Knowledge of anti-bias education principles and practices, and a commitment to integrating these principles into all aspects of teaching and learning within the preschool setting.

Ability to actively engage with the broader community, including families, local organizations, and cultural institutions, to enrich the educational experiences of our students and promote equity and social justice.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement age-appropriate lesson plans and activities for K-3 Students
  • Create a nurturing and stimulating environment that promotes learning and development
  • Provide a safe and secure environment for children to explore and grow
  • Foster positive relationships with parents and communicate regularly about their child's progress
  • Maintain accurate records of each child's attendance, behavior, and developmental milestones
  • Collaborate with other teachers and staff to ensure a cohesive and enriching experience
  • Implement effective classroom management strategies to promote a positive learning environment
  • Incorporate math, physical education, and other educational components into daily activities
Qualifications:
  • Degree or certificate in Early Childhood Education, Teaching, Montessori, Social Work, CDA, or related field required
  • Previous experience working with children in an educational setting
  • Knowledge of childhood development principles and best practices in progressive education
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
