Job Description

Student workers will collaborate on a six-week place-based education project focused on creating secondary lesson plans grounded in the cultural, ecological, and community context of Capitol Reef National Park and Wayne County, Utah. Students will participate in a 1-hour weekly group meeting and complete up to 2 additional hours per week of independent work. Students will work closely with the faculty supervisor and peers to produce high-quality instructional materials for future teacher-education cohorts. This position supports professional growth in curriculum design, reflective practice, collaboration, and place-based pedagogy within rural education contexts.
Duties include:
Collaboratively brainstorming lesson concepts Researching disciplinary content Aligning lessons with Utah state standards Drafting and revising lesson plans Providing peer feedback Rehearsing instructional activities as needed. Must be a current UVU student Participation in the Secondary Education Capitol Reef Field Experience (Dates TBD) Enrollment in a secondary education teacher preparation program Preferred Qualifications Experience designing lesson plans or teaching in a secondary classroom Interest in lesson planning and curriculum design Ability to work collaboratively and meet weekly deadlines Familiarity with place-based or experiential learning approaches Strong written communication skills Interest in rural education contexts
