  • 21 per hour + gratuities Salt Lake Culinary Education (SLICE) is seeking an experienced, engaging Part-Time Chef Instructor to lead recreational cooking classes, private events, corporate culinary experiences, and occasional instruction of our student chefs.
This is a great opportunity for a skilled culinary professional who loves cooking, teaching, and interacting with people. We're looking for someone who is outgoing, creative, organized, dependable, and comfortable taking the lead while creating a fun and memorable experience for our guests. In addition to the hourly wage, Chef Instructors receive gratuities from qualifying private events, which can significantly increase overall earnings. Responsibilities Lead recreational hands-on cooking classes, private events, and corporate culinary experiences Provide clear, engaging culinary instruction and demonstrations Create a positive, interactive, and welcoming learning environment Guide guests and students of varying skill levels with patience and confidence Direct and coordinate chef assistants, kitchen assistants, and dishwashers during classes and events Manage class and event timing to ensure a smooth and enjoyable guest experience Teach and mentor student chefs as needed Evaluate, scale, test, develop, and refine recipes and class menus Maintain high standards for food quality, organization, sanitation, and professionalism Help ensure kitchens and workspaces are properly set up and ready for classes and events Work collaboratively with SLICE staff to provide an exceptional customer experience The Ideal Candidate Has professional kitchen and cooking experience Has formal culinary education and/or significant professional culinary experience Enjoys teaching and helping others develop their culinary skills Is personable, energetic, confident, and comfortable speaking in front of groups Can engage and entertain guests while still maintaining control of the kitchen and class Has excellent verbal communication and leadership skills Is knowledgeable about culinary techniques, professional kitchen practices, and current food trends Is organized, dependable, and efficient with strong time-management skills Can successfully manage multiple tasks and priorities Works well independently while also being a collaborative team player Maintains a positive, professional attitude Has basic computer skills Has reliable transportation Previous culinary teaching experience is preferred, but we are also interested in experienced chefs who have the personality, communication skills, and desire to become excellent instructors. Schedule This is a part-time, flexible position with hours based on SLICE's recreational class and private event schedule. Classes and events take place during both daytime and evening hours, and some evening and weekend availability is required . This position may be especially well suited for a culinary professional looking to supplement an existing schedule, an experienced chef who enjoys teaching and interacting with guests, or a culinary instructor looking for additional classes and events. Compensation $18
  • 21 per hour, depending on experience, plus gratuities from qualifying private events.
Gratuities can provide meaningful additional compensation beyond the hourly rate.
