General Description:

Deliver teacher-led instruction and support online learning in a blended learning environment to meet a range of educational needs for youth learning English Primary Responsibilities Develop lessons and units focused on Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking the English language Provide instruction in English language to English Language Learners Provide academic support to students individually and in small groups Check student progress and understanding frequently through curriculum monitoring, group discussions/activities, and 1-1 conversations Communicate student progress and achievement to parents/guardians and students Communicate with students working remotely on a regular basis Create a positive classroom environment conducive to learning Implement curriculum in accordance with established procedures Maintain a classroom environment that is safe, well-ordered and conducive to student learning Maintain accurate records regarding student progress, attendance and engagement Meet with students regularly to discuss their goals, needs and academic progress Monitor student achievement, student progress, English proficiency levels, and Formerly Limited English Proficient (FLEP) students Participate in ELL Professional Learning Community Review and grade student activities, assignments and assessments Support ELL students working in the online curriculum Follow additional directives and assignments given by the Principal Essential Traits, Skills and Abilities A passion for serving at-risk youth A belief in setting high expectations for all students Excellent oral and written communication skills Highly organized Consistent follow-through Ability to implement effective instructional strategies Proficient in computer applications Qualifications Bachelor's degree Certification in Teaching English as a Second Language Conversational knowledge of Spanish preferred Knowledge of sheltered instruction (SIOP) and other language development methods preferred Satisfactory completion of criminal history check This job description is a summary of the responsibilities, duties, knowledge, skills, experience, abilities and qualifications associated with this position.
