Job Description

Swanson-Erie Corporation , since 1919, a leader in advanced machine design and build, is seeking a Controls Engineer for its Erie operation.
Job Responsibilities:
Conduct customer reviews addressing overall specifications, component selection, panel design, and then design schematics, on-machine control layouts and programming PLC and HMI to meet customer specifications. Prepare the electrical and pneumatics drawing package for product and/or system designs to meet customer requirements. Prepare bills of material for the electrical and pneumatics drawing package including specifying vendor components to use in final design. Implement a complete software solution including PLC, HMI and other 3rd party devices programming from controls specifications and drawings. Develop control component communications and perform software installation, I/O testing and debugging of PLC and HMI software. Participate in product and system design reviews, machine run-off, and take responsibility for electrical and pneumatic controls.
Skills:
Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to represent the company in a professional manner. Excellent problem solving and time management skills. Good electrical/mechanical aptitude and knowledge. In-depth knowledge of electronic equipment and computer hardware and software. Self-motivated and highly organized. Proficient in AutoCAD and MS Office Suite. Ability to work with other engineering and manufacturing personnel to resolve problems on the shop floor.
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering preferred; associate or technical degree will be considered. 5 years of experience with industrial electrical automation and machine control system design. Experience in Siemens, Allen Bradley, Modicon PLC programming and products; other PLC's a plus. Experience with industrial communications networks a plus. Experience with electrical and pneumatic specifications and drawings/schematics. Experience with designing and implementing motion control systems, including servo motors; robotic controls a plus. Experience with machine inspection/vision systems a plus. Specific experience in the control of multiple station machines is highly desirable. Variations from the above requirements will be considered.
