Who We're Hiring We're looking for an experienced Electrical Estimator with a background in utility, substation, or transmission & distribution (T&D) projects. This role supports complex, high-value infrastructure work across Connecticut and the Northeast and partners closely with operations, project management, and executive leadership. We believe strong projects start in preconstruction. Our estimating team plays a critical role in shaping project success through accurate pricing, thoughtful planning, and proactive risk management. The Opportunity As an Electrical Estimator, you'll lead the development of accurate cost estimates and competitive bids for complex infrastructure projects. You'll collaborate with leadership and project teams to ensure each project is set up for safe, efficient, and profitable execution. What You'll Work On Electrical substations (greenfield and brownfield projects) Transmission & distribution (T&D) systems Underground and overhead utility construction Power distribution systems and grid infrastructure Renewable interconnections and grid modernization projects Key Responsibilities Prepare detailed electrical cost estimates, bid packages, and proposals Perform quantity takeoffs, material takeoffs, and labor cost analysis Analyze construction drawings, blueprints, specifications, and bid documents Develop pricing using vendor quotes, subcontractor bids, and historical cost data Apply value engineering, cost optimization, and constructability reviews Identify project risks, scope gaps, and cost exposure during preconstruction Support bid management, contract review, and preconstruction planning Collaborate with project managers, engineers, procurement teams, and clients Required Qualifications 5+ years of experience in electrical estimating or construction estimating Direct experience with utility construction, substation projects, or T&D infrastructure Strong knowledge of electrical systems, power distribution, and NEC (National Electrical Code) Experience with bid preparation, cost estimating, and project bidding processes Proficiency with estimating and construction software, such as: Accubid, ConEst, McCormick, ProEst, or similar estimating tools Bluebeam, PlanSwift, or takeoff software Microsoft Excel (advanced) Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or Electrical Engineering Experience with EPC, design-build, or utility infrastructure projects Familiarity with Eversource, United Illuminating (UI), or regional utility standards Experience in preconstruction, change orders, contract negotiation, or scheduling Knowledge of project management, budgeting, and cost control practices Why Join Us Consistent backlog of utility and infrastructure construction projects Work on large-scale electrical systems and power distribution projects Direct collaboration with leadership, project management, and field operations Opportunity to grow into Senior Estimator, Preconstruction Manager, or Project Management roles Competitive compensation with performance-based incentives Team environment focused on technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement Work Environment Office-based with hybrid flexibility based on experience Regular coordination with field operations, engineering, and estimating teams Exposure to job sites, project inspections, and pre-bid walkthroughs as needed Apply If You Are… An estimator experienced in utility, substation, or heavy electrical construction Skilled in cost estimating, takeoffs, bid preparation, and project analysis Interested in working on infrastructure and power distribution projects Seeking long-term growth within electrical construction, estimating, or preconstruction leadership Career Growth at Phalcon At Phalcon, estimators are leaders.
