Job Description

Position Summary The Mine Site Electrician is responsible for the installation, inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems and equipment used in mining operations. Must be able to operate equipment necessary to move cable and portable equipment This role is critical to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of mobile equipment, fixed plant, and site infrastructure in accordance with regulatory and company safety standards. Supervisor Responsibilities This position has no direct supervisor responsibilities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Must possess a strong working knowledge of AC and DC theory and equipment, test procedures, safe work practices, and electrical codes. Inspect, maintain, diagnose, and repair electrical systems on mining equipment, fixed plant, and site facilities Must possess a strong working knowledge of AC and DC theory and equipment Troubleshoot and repair low- and high-voltage electrical systems, motors, drives, PLCs, and control circuits Install and maintain power distribution systems, transformers, MCCs, switchgear, lighting, and grounding systems Perform preventative maintenance to minimize downtime and extend equipment life Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals Conduct electrical testing using appropriate tools and instruments Ensure compliance with site electrical standards, codes, and safe work practices Follow lockout/tagout, isolation, and permit procedures (energized work, confined space, hot work as applicable) Document completed work, inspections, and defects in maintenance systems Communicate effectively with supervisors, engineers, and other trades Maintain tools, test equipment, and work areas to required housekeeping standards Typical Physical Demands Ability to stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, and climb for extended periods. Ability to work around heavy equipment safely and effectively. Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to climb ladders, platforms, scaffolding, and access elevated equipment as needed. Must be able to work 10-12 hour shifts, including rotating days, nights, weekends, and required overtime. Must be able to pass pre‑employment drug and alcohol screening. Must have full range of motion and manual dexterity to perform job duties. Typical Working Conditions Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments and may involve exposure to changing weather conditions. The work area can include noise, dust, uneven surfaces, confined spaces, and active equipment or machinery. Shifts may occur during various hours of the day and week, and employees must be able to adapt to fluctuating operational needs and environments. Must follow all safety requirements. Education and Experience High School Diploma or GED required Journeyman Electrician certification or equivalent trade qualification. Must be able to pass MSHA Surface Coal Electrical Qualification Exam Experience working in industrial, mining, or heavy equipment environments is preferred MSHA certification preferred Equivalent combinations of education and experience considered Licenses, Registration, and Certifications MSHA Surface Coal Electrical Qualification preferred Must possess a valid driver's license through the duration of employment Must meet all insurability requirements as specified by Westmoreland's policies or Driver's insurance provider Skills/Competencies Strong knowledge of electrical safety practices and hazard controls. Ability to troubleshoot electrical faults efficiently and accurately. Proficient in reading electrical drawings and technical documentation. Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, operators, and team members. Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
