Job Title:
Electro-Mechanical Build Technician Job Description The Electro-Mechanical Build Technician plays a critical role in setting up automated manufacturing lines and in the assembly, testing, and validation of electrical and mechanical components that support advanced fusion energy systems. This position supports both engineering and delivery teams, ensuring that complex electromechanical equipment operates reliably and efficiently. The role requires strong hands-on technical skills, meticulous attention to detail, and a proactive approach to building, maintaining, and improving cutting-edge manufacturing systems. Responsibilities Lead the assembly, installation, and maintenance of fusion systems and related automated manufacturing equipment. Support the setup of automated manufacturing lines by installing equipment, facilities, storage, and supporting infrastructure. Receive deliveries, inspect incoming equipment and supplies, and maintain accurate inventory control of manufacturing materials and components. Perform rapid prototyping for fusion technology applications, using appropriate tools and equipment to build and refine mechanical and electromechanical assemblies. Support the engineering team during the design, development, and testing phases of the fusion system by assembling prototypes, executing test plans, and providing feedback on design improvements. Troubleshoot, repair, and optimize complex electromechanical and automated systems to minimize downtime and maximize productivity. Interpret and work from CAD models, technical drawings, schematics, diagrams, and blueprints to build and assemble systems accurately. Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including electrical, mechanical, software, and manufacturing engineers, to ensure proper systems integration and overall effectiveness. Draft, review, and finalize standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety procedures, and other technical documentation to support consistent and safe operations. Maintain the manufacturing environment using 5S principles, ensuring that all tools, equipment, and workspaces remain clean, safe, organized, and ready for use. Operate machine shop tools such as lathes, mills, CNC machines, and drill presses to fabricate and modify parts as needed for system builds and maintenance. Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively to assemble, install, and service equipment and components. Operate a forklift and other material-handling equipment, once appropriately certified, to move and position heavy equipment and materials. Comply with all applicable safety and regulatory requirements, including ISO standards and relevant state and federal regulations, as well as internal company policies. Contribute to building out the manufacturing team by supporting interviewing, onboarding, and training of other technicians, as needed, to scale operations. Essential Skills Minimum 2 years of experience as a technician in a hands-on manufacturing environment. At least 1 year of experience using CAD software and technical drawings for viewing and interpreting design schematics. At least 2 years of experience troubleshooting complex electromechanical systems in a production or industrial setting. Demonstrated ability to read and interpret schematics, diagrams, blueprints, and other technical documentation. Hands-on experience working with electromechanical and automated systems in a manufacturing context. Proficiency in troubleshooting and diagnosing issues in electromechanical and automated equipment, including mechanical, electrical, and control-related problems. Ability to use CAD tools to review designs, understand system layouts, and support accurate assembly and integration. Experience working safely and effectively with hand tools and power tools in a manufacturing or shop environment. Familiarity with operating in a structured manufacturing environment, including adherence to procedures, documentation, and quality standards. Strong attention to detail, with the ability to follow complex instructions and ensure high-quality assembly and installation work. Effective communication skills to collaborate with engineers, technicians, and other team members across multiple disciplines. Additional Skills & Qualifications Ability to obtain or current possession of a driving certification for forklift operation. Experience with automation equipment and automated manufacturing processes. Experience setting up a new manufacturing facility, ideally in a startup or fast-growing environment. Experience owning and mastering machine shop tools, particularly lathes, mills, CNC machines, and drill presses. Experience building out a technical team, including interviewing, hiring, and training other technicians. Familiarity with 5S or similar lean manufacturing principles to maintain an organized and efficient workspace. Understanding of ISO standards and other relevant regulatory frameworks applicable to manufacturing environments. Comfort working with advanced fusion, hard-tech, or other complex industrial technologies is a plus. Strong problem-solving mindset and willingness to iterate quickly in a rapidly evolving engineering environment. Work Environment This role is based in a high-growth, advanced manufacturing and fusion technology environment dedicated to developing abundant, affordable, clean energy. Founded in 2023, the organization is rapidly designing and constructing a pulsed magnetic fusion system intended to achieve net facility gain, producing more fusion energy output than the energy stored going in.
