Exempt Position Summary The Elementary Dean of Students supports the principal in fostering a safe, orderly, and positive school environment. This role is primarily responsible for student discipline and attendance (truancy) interventions, while building strong relationships with students, families, and staff to promote student success. The Dean works proactively to reduce behavior incidents, improve attendance, and ensure consistent implementation of school policies. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Student Discipline & Behavior Support Assist the principal in implementing and enforcing the district's student discipline policies and procedures. Investigate student behavior incidents and determine appropriate consequences in alignment with district guidelines. Maintain accurate and timely discipline records and documentation. Support teachers with classroom management strategies and behavior interventions. Facilitate restorative practices and conflict resolution when appropriate. Monitor behavior trends and proactively implement supports to reduce repeat incidents. Supervise students in common areas (arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess, etc.) to ensure a safe environment. Attendance & Truancy Support Monitor daily student attendance and identify patterns of chronic absenteeism. Lead truancy intervention efforts, including parent communication, attendance plans, and follow-up meetings. Collaborate with families to remove barriers to consistent attendance. Work with district and community resources to support students with attendance challenges. Maintain accurate attendance records and ensure compliance with state attendance laws and district policies. Student & Family Support Build positive relationships with students to support behavioral and academic success. Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding discipline and attendance concerns. Serve as a liaison between school and home to support student improvement. Participate in student support teams (MTSS, PBIS, etc.) and contribute to intervention planning. Staff Collaboration Partner with teachers and staff to ensure consistency in discipline practices. Provide guidance and support to staff on behavior management and de-escalation strategies. Assist in professional development related to student behavior and attendance. School Climate & Culture Promote a positive school culture focused on respect, responsibility, and safety. Support implementation of school-wide behavior systems (e.g., PBIS or similar frameworks). Help plan and support initiatives that recognize positive student behavior and improved attendance. Other Duties Assist the principal with general school operations as needed. Perform other duties as assigned by the principal. Qualifications Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in Education or related field preferred. Valid state teaching certificate; administrative certification preferred (or willingness to obtain). Experience working with elementary-aged students is preferred. Strong knowledge of student discipline practices and attendance laws. Demonstrated ability to build relationships with students, families, and staff. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Requires mobility throughout the school campus and participation in daily supervision duties. Skiatook Public Schools offers competitive pay and benefits including paid holidays and health benefits. Starting salary will be based on applicant qualifications and/or work history. Under the Teacher Loan Forgiveness (TLF) Program, if you teach full time for five complete and consecutive academic years in a low-income school or educational service agency, and meet other qualifications, you may be eligible for forgiveness of up to $17,500 on your Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans and your Subsidized and Unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loans.
