Qualifications:
Masters Degree in education, with specialization in guidance and Iowa endorsement for elementary guidance and three years of classroom teaching preferred.
Job Summary:
The counselor is to help students develop their ability to make appropriate decisions in education, occupation and life planning. The counselor will aid students in their everyday choices.
Terms of Employment:
Salary and benefits to be established by the Board of Education.
Evaluation:
Job performance will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the board's policy for Licensed Employee Evaluation.
Job Responsibilities:
Be responsible for the testing program for the elementary school. Assist staff in identifying students who have significant problems impeding school success. Work with the principal in setting dates and times for MTSS meetings. Provide information and data for and attend IEP meetings as needed. Communicate with staff about special needs students may have and how to meet those needs. Conduct small and large group counseling sessions. Provide orientation for new students. Make a continuous effort to counsel and aid students in matters of: educational programs, personal problems, social problems, peer status, parental problems and other areas in which student welfare is concerned. Work directly with the principal in changing inappropriate student behavior. Handle discipline situations when the principal is out of the building. Other responsibilities as assigned by the principal or superintendent.
