Job Description

The Mukwonago Area School District is looking to hire a part-time library assistant to serve in Clarendon Elementary School for 29.75 hours a week for the 2026-2027 school year. Duties would include library clerical work, such as checking books in and out, restocking library shelves, maintaining the library environment, and assisting students as they practice their library skills. Library assistants would also be responsible for recess and lunch duties as determined by their individual building principals.
Hourly Rate:
$17-23 per hour
Qualifications:
High school diploma
Key Responsibilities:
Help prepare materials and activities for library lessons. Communicate regularly with the librarian about library needs and student behavior. Help pull and organize books and resources for classroom projects or lesson themes. Assist teachers in reserving or locating age-appropriate materials. Coordinate with teachers and the librarian to support reading initiatives and classroom-library integration. Guide students in choosing books suited to their reading level and interests. Monitor students during library time to promote respectful and safe behavior. Help students with basic computer use, book searches, and logging into reading programs. Process new books (labeling, stamping, covering). Help maintain library records and inventory. Report damaged or lost books and assist with overdue notices. Create and update book displays, bulletin boards, and reading corners. Encourage students to participate in reading challenges and events. Foster a welcoming, inclusive space that supports literacy and learning. Ideal candidates enjoy working with children, have strong organizational skills, and are comfortable with technology.
