POSITION SUMMARY
The Elementary Teacher creates a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment that supports the academic, social, and emotional growth of all students. This position is responsible for planning and delivering high-quality instruction aligned with district curriculum and state standards while fostering curiosity, critical thinking, collaboration, and a love of learning. The Elementary Teacher utilizes data-informed instructional practices, differentiates learning to meet diverse student needs, and builds strong partnerships with students, families, and colleagues to support student achievement and school success.
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will possess: Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate (Elementary K-5 All Subjects)
  • ZG, ZC, or ZE endorsement preferred Elementary teaching experience preferred Demonstrated ability to provide engaging, student-centered instruction that supports diverse learners Evidence of passion for teaching, strong content knowledge, and understanding of best practices in student learning and development Knowledge of instructional strategies, assessment practices, and differentiated instruction Strong classroom management, collaboration, organizational, and communication skills Commitment to fostering an inclusive, respectful, and supportive learning environment Meet all State and Federal requirements for Highly Qualified status within the assigned subject area
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Planning and Preparation Plan, implement, teach, and assess a comprehensive elementary instructional program aligned with district curriculum and state standards Develop and organize daily lessons that include modeling, direct instruction, guided practice, collaboration, and independent application Design and utilize formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and inform instructional decisions Differentiate instruction and learning experiences to meet the diverse academic, social, emotional, and developmental needs of students Plan for the effective use of instructional materials, technology, and resources that support student engagement and achievement Create meaningful learning experiences that foster curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills Utilize data to adjust instruction and improve student outcomes Incorporate research-based instructional practices and curriculum resources into classroom instruction Classroom Environment Establish and maintain a safe, respectful, inclusive, and productive learning environment conducive to teaching and learning Create a classroom culture that promotes mutual respect, positive relationships, collaboration, and student responsibility Set and reinforce clear behavioral and academic expectations for students Organize classroom space, materials, routines, and procedures to maximize instructional time and student engagement Utilize a variety of instructional and classroom management strategies to support an engaging and effective culture for learning Foster student confidence, independence, and a growth mindset Instruction Deliver high-quality instruction using a variety of instructional approaches, including whole-group, small-group, inquiry-based, and individualized learning opportunities Engage students actively and meaningfully in the learning process through questioning, discussion, collaboration, and hands-on experiences Evaluate student performance, knowledge, and skills in all assigned subject areas Maintain accurate records related to student attendance, grades, assessments, and other professional responsibilities Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues regarding student expectations, progress, achievement, and behavior Use effective questioning and discussion techniques to deepen student understanding and engagement Support the implementation of district instructional frameworks and curricular initiatives Demonstrate experience with or working knowledge of Lucy Calkins reading/writing instruction, workshop model, InquirED, and Everyday Mathematics preferred Professional Responsibilities Participate actively in faculty committees, school events, student activities, professional learning opportunities, and district initiatives Collaborate positively and professionally with colleagues, support staff, administrators, students, and families Engage in curriculum development and continuous improvement efforts related to teaching and learning Reflect on instructional practices and implement adjustments to improve student achievement and instructional effectiveness Contribute to building and district school improvement goals and initiatives Collect, analyze, and communicate student data to support academic growth and student success Develop and maintain effective communication processes with students and families regarding student progress and classroom expectations Maintain compliance with district policies, state requirements, and professional standards Perform other duties as assigned by the building administrator or designee
