POSITION SUMMARY
The Long-Term Substitute Teacher provides high-quality instruction and maintains continuity of learning during the temporary absence of the regular classroom teacher. This position is responsible for creating a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment while implementing lesson plans, managing classroom routines, and supporting the academic, social, and emotional needs of students. The Long-Term Substitute Teacher collaborates with staff, students, and families to ensure a positive and productive educational experience aligned with district expectations and instructional goals.
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will possess: Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate or substitute permit as required by the State of Michigan Appropriate grade-level and/or subject-area certification preferred Prior teaching or substitute teaching experience preferred Demonstrated ability to establish positive relationships with students, staff, and families Strong classroom management, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Ability to adapt instruction and classroom practices to meet diverse student needs Commitment to maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment Ability to follow district policies, procedures, curriculum expectations, and building routines
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Instruction & Classroom Management Implement lesson plans and instructional activities provided by the classroom teacher, grade-level team, or administrator Deliver instruction aligned with district curriculum, classroom expectations, and student learning goals Maintain a safe, respectful, organized, and productive classroom environment conducive to learning Establish and reinforce clear behavioral and academic expectations for students Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to engage students and support learning Differentiate instruction and provide appropriate support to meet the diverse needs of learners Supervise students in classrooms and other assigned settings in accordance with district procedures and expectations Maintain continuity of classroom routines, procedures, and instructional practices during the teacher's absence Student Support & Communication Foster positive relationships with students that support engagement, learning, and student well-being Communicate effectively and professionally with students, families, colleagues, and administrators Support students' academic, social, emotional, and behavioral growth Collaborate with grade-level teams, special education staff, support personnel, and administrators as needed Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and school matters in accordance with district policies and applicable laws Assessment & Recordkeeping Monitor student progress and participation during the assignment Maintain accurate attendance records, grading information, and other required documentation Provide feedback and updates regarding student progress and classroom activities to the regular classroom teacher and administration as appropriate Follow district procedures related to assessment, reporting, and recordkeeping Professional Responsibilities Follow all district policies, building procedures, and professional expectations Participate in staff meetings, professional learning activities, and school initiatives as appropriate to the assignment Demonstrate professionalism, flexibility, reliability, and collaboration in all interactions Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and ethical standards Contribute positively to the school culture and learning environment Perform other duties as assigned by the building administrator or designee
