Every third weekend rotation. On-call begins Friday at 5:00 PM. Scheduled 12-hour shifts are from 11:00 AM-11:00 PM on Saturday and Sunday, with on-call time during non-worked hours through Monday at 7:00 AM.Department:
Med Surg | ER | OB Job Summary Performs various patient care activities both inside and outside the hospital setting. Drives emergency vehicles. Performs these duties in accordance with the rules, regulations, policies and procedures of the Nebraska Department of Health, Nebraska Emergency Medical Services, Nebraska Department of Transportation and Providence Medical Center. Essential Functions Works under the direction of the RN within the emergency room and can prioritize and carry out assigned duties of patient care.Answer call lights and assist patient needs.
Clean emergency rooms after patient discharges, following organizational cleaning practices.
Provides safe transportation of patients by wheelchair, cart or ambulation.
Collect sputum, urine, and stool specimens as assigned. Must be in the emergency vehicle within ten minutes of an emergency page for response calls. Drives emergency vehicles safely and according to the law to meet situation requirements. Is proficient in driving, approaching, parking and leaving the scene in a safe manner. Utilize the following criteria to determine the best route: weather, time of day, detours, etc. Transports patients safely to appropriate medical facility. Controls the emergency scene protecting the patient, fellow workers, bystanders, and yourself.
Has the ability to recognize hazardous materials and follow proper procedures and precautions. Recognize emergency scene safety and, if necessary, requests assistance from the hospital, law enforcement, fire departments, mutual aid services and utility services. Works cooperatively with other personnel. Initiates, receives, and maintains radio communications with appropriate entities.
Refuels emergency vehicles after out-of-town transfers, or as needed. Provides quality patient care that falls within their scope of practice. Performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation and other medical procedures following policy and procedure standards of care.
Is proficient in the use of all equipment including, but not limited to splints, cervical collars, backboards, ECG machines, vital sign machines and suction devices.
Completes patient assessment by examination and gathering information from the patient and others on the scene. Must use universal precautions and wear appropriate clothing/personal protective equipment as needed for specified situation. Maintains patient confidentiality. Notifies Ambulance Supervisor of deficiencies, shortages or any other problems with emergency vehicles or their contents, or of any injuries sustained while on duty. Completes ENARSIS Patient Encounter and all required forms in a clear, articulate and timely manner. Answer EMS phone and relays information to nursing and EMS personnel. Receives and registers patients in the emergency room, ensuring that paperwork and registration are completed in its entirety. Assemble patient chart and maintain paper documentation within chart. Scan documents to electronic health records as indicated.
Demonstrates knowledge of Federal and State standards and laws to maintain corporate compliance within the organization.
Demonstrate knowledge of Patient/Resident Rights and Responsibility.
Exhibits knowledge of Incident Action Plans (IAPs) for all emergency situations. Prepare paperwork/charts for admission, transfers, and discharges. Abides by and upholds the ethics of conduct disseminated by this facility. Works well with others and communicates effectively. Is able to maintain calm and focused in emergent situations.
Is responsible for keeping all certifications valid.
Be knowledgeable and adhere to hospital and ambulance policies, procedures and protocols. Performs all other duties as assigned.
Regular attendance at the assigned work location is an essential function of the job.
