Job Description

The Engineering Aide provides technical and administrative support to the City's Engineering and Public Works Department. This position assists with infrastructure projects, development review, inspections, record keeping, and field data collection to support the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of municipal systems including streets, drainage, water, and wastewater.
Qualifications:
Under the general supervision of the Planning Supervisor, the Engineering Aide assists with review of projects, GIS Mapping customer service, inspections and assists with ensuring compliance with the City s Unified Development Code. Assist with the review of construction plans, plats, and development submittals for completeness and compliance with City standards. Support engineering staff with project documentation, cost estimates, and report preparation. Conduct field inspections of public infrastructure projects (streets, drainage, utilities) to verify compliance with plans and specifications. Collect and record field data including measurements, photos, and site observations. Maintain records, maps, permits, and engineering files (both digital and hard copy). Coordinate with contractors, developers, and other City departments regarding project status and requirements. Respond to citizen inquiries and service requests related to infrastructure concerns. Assist with GIS mapping updates and data entry, if applicable. Monitor ongoing construction activities and report progress or issues to supervising engineers. Ensure compliance with safety standards and applicable regulations.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Familiarity with AutoCAD, GIS, or similar software is a plus. Strong organizational and record-keeping skills. Ability to communicate effectively with staff, contractors, and the public. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks. Basic math and problem-solving skills.
WORKING CONDITIONS PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to stand, walk, and traverse construction sites for extended periods. Ability to bend, climb, and perform light physical labor. Visual ability to read plans and inspect work for accuracy. May require lifting up to 25-50 pounds occasionally.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Considerable time is spent in the office, some time is spent in the field inspecting business or construction sites with an exposure to a variety of weather and lighting conditions.
SENSORY DEMANDS
This position is exposed to regular office conditions and limited outdoor exposure to weather conditions and variety of lighting on locations both indoors and out.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED required. Associate degree or coursework in engineering, construction management, or a related field preferred. Basic knowledge of civil engineering principles, construction practices, or public infrastructure systems. Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, maps, and specifications (preferred but can be trained). Valid Texas Driver s License with a good driving record.
