Job Title:
Engineering Archivist Job Description The Engineering Archivist plays a key role in preserving and digitizing legacy engineering machining drawings that are more than 20 years old. You will scan physical drawings into PDF format, maintain accurate records of progress, and ensure the completeness and quality of each scanned document. This role suits someone who enjoys detailed, repetitive work, is comfortable with technology, and can communicate clearly about issues and progress. Responsibilities Archive legacy engineering machining drawings by converting physical documents into high-quality PDF files. Operate scanning equipment and use multiple computer programs to ensure all drawings are scanned completely and accurately. Review each scanned file to verify legibility, completeness, and proper orientation, applying basic quality assurance checks. Document daily progress, including which drawings have been scanned, any issues encountered, and the status of each batch. Identify and record any documents that do not scan completely or correctly, noting specific issues and attempted resolutions. Notify the designated company contact promptly when documents cannot be scanned completely or when technical issues arise. Maintain organized digital and, where applicable, physical records to support efficient retrieval of archived drawings. Perform accurate data entry related to scanned files, including file naming, indexing, and metadata entry in document control or data entry software. Follow established document control procedures and standards for handling, scanning, and storing engineering drawings. Handle repetitive tasks with consistency and focus, maintaining high attention to detail throughout the workday. Collaborate and communicate professionally with colleagues in an engineering-based environment to support ongoing projects. Protect the integrity and confidentiality of all engineering documents while working within company policies and guidelines. Essential Skills Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Demonstrated ability to navigate and work within multiple software programs simultaneously. Experience with scanning documents and operating basic office scanning equipment. Familiarity with document control practices and processes. Understanding of technical or engineering drawings sufficient to recognize completeness and basic structure. Quality assurance mindset with strong attention to detail when reviewing scanned documents. Accurate data entry skills using data entry or document management software. Good communication skills, including the ability to document issues clearly and provide daily status updates. Personable, professional demeanor with the ability to work effectively in an office and engineering-based environment. Ability to perform redundant and repetitive tasks while maintaining a positive attitude and strong focus. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience working with engineering or technical drawings. Experience in document control, records management, or archiving. Experience working in an engineering, manufacturing, or technical office environment. Demonstrated ability to follow structured procedures and standards for document handling. Interest in supporting large-scale projects for major corporate clients. Work Environment This role is based in an office environment within an engineering-focused setting. You will work closely with premium software tools and standard office equipment, including scanners and computers running Microsoft Office and related data entry or document control software. The work involves extended periods of seated, computer-based tasks and repetitive scanning activities. You will collaborate with engineering and office staff while supporting work related to a Fortune 500 company. The position offers access to benefits, including holiday and vacation pay, in a professional, process-driven environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Woodburn, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $23.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
