Job Description
Brunswick County is currently accepting applications for an Engineering Project Manager to join our Engineering Department. The Engineering Project Manager is responsible for performing a variety of engineering support tasks for the County, including reviewing and approving engineering plans for subdivisions, water mains, sewer mains, and pump stations.
Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, or related field; AND five (5) years of relevant experience (government or engineering preferred); OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Extensive knowledge/demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office and engineering software (i.e., AutoCad, ESRI ArcGIS, etc.) Valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver License required. North Carolina Engineering Intern (EI) or Professional Engineer (PE) designation highly desirable. Physical Requirements Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle and a variety of machinery and equipment including computers, calculators, hand tools, valve wrenches, etc. Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 5 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Light Work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree. Occasional field work is required in this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Work includes:
managing the plan review program and maintaining the plan review tracking spreadsheet. reviewing and approving water, sewer, pump station, and NCDOT permit applications. conducting preconstruction conferences for county capital improvement program (CIP) projects and developer installed infrastructure projects. performing field inspections of water, sewer, pump station installations, etc. ensuring project closeout documents (i.e., as-built record drawings, certifications, reports, deed of dedication packages, etc.) are received. utilizing engineering software (i.e., AutoCAD, ArcGIS, etc.) to assist design engineers, developers, and the public with utility projects and requests for water and sewer information. maintaining project files and as-built record drawings. assisting the Public Utilities department with updating the GIS utility layer with as-built drawings. preparing and generating proposals, bids, reports, memos, plans, and other project related documents. supporting stormwater engineering projects as needed.Work also involves:
helping to maintain and update the County's Engineering Design Manual, Technical Specifications, and Standard Details for Water and Sewer Systems; helping to maintain the DWQ Flow Tracking for Sewer Extensions (FTSE) program and preparing required reports to NCDEQ; and helping with the Rural Sewer Program. The Engineering Project Manager responds to questions/inquiries from the public and other County departments related to water and sewer availability and prepares and may deliver presentations to the Board of Commissioners as needed.
