Glenn Research Center Brook Park, Ohio HX5 is an award-winning provider of engineering, research and development, and technical services to clients such as NASA and the Department of Defense. Founded in 2004, HX5 is a fast-growing veteran- and woman-owned company with locations nationwide. HX5 is currently seeking an Aerospace Systems Engineer to join our team in Brook Park, Ohio in support of the GEARS contract at NASA Glenn Research Center.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
NASA's new mission to demonstrate deep-space nuclear-electric propulsion will adapt Gateway's Power and Propulsion Element (PPE) to be used with the Space Reactor-1 (SR-1) Freedom as its structural and propulsion foundation. The selected candidate will support the modification and redefinition of requirements and their verification and validation (V&V) in support of the changes needed to the
PPE. SR-1
is planned to launch in December 2028 and is the NASA spacecraft that will provide a path to future higher power and longer duration missions. The selected candidate will support PPE requirements definition, and their V&V.
Primary responsibilities will include:
Ensure the system requirements are accurately and thoroughly defined Define verification methods for all requirements Coordinate subsystem and system level test planning for requirement closure criteria Ensure validation of mission requirements and concept of operations Support collaboration between the relevant NASA Centers and PPE industry partners The selected candidate will support the PPE Lead Requirements SE and the
PPE SE&I
team. This effort is monitored by the Science and Space Technology Systems Branch at NASA GRC, which provides leadership in systems engineering to enable science and space technology programs and projects.
Required Skills:
Experience with defining requirements and their V&V Experience with systems engineering for spacecraft hardware Experience with formal systems engineering processes and their documentation Excellent communication skills for interacting with the NASA team and their industry partners Highly motivated and able to work independently Committed to successful collaboration with the NASA team and industry partners
Desired Skills:
Knowledge or experience with NASA systems engineering processes Experience with system level and subsystem integration for large spacecraft Experience with NASA spaceflight hardware projects Experience working with
NASA Education/Experience:
Completed at least a Bachelor of Science degree with a STEM-related major, from an accredited program, with the following education and experience: Bachelor of Science degree with 5 to10 years of relevant experience Master of Science degree with 3 to 6 years of relevant experience Ph D. with 0 to 3 years of relevant experience
Other Position Requirements:
Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position. Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
