As a Design Engineer Level 2 located in Promontory, UT, you'll be a linchpin in missions of paramount importance, defining the art of the possible from day one. The Structures Design Engineer is responsible for providing Integration Design Engineering over Rocket Motor Assembly, Igniter Design, Raceway Design, Thrust Vector Control Integration, Secondary Structures, and Mass Properties. The design engineer will also provide design engineering services on commercial rocket motor assembly projects, and perform systems engineering tasks related to interface control on piece part designs. Perform vehicle level integration tasks on pyro and range safety system, avionics integration, electrical cables and connectors, bonded attachments, and bolted designs. This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Prepare 3D NX models, mechanical & assembly drawings, and specifications in accordance with company standards Support mechanical & integration design on Defense, Commercial and IR D Projects Prepare test & instrumentation drawings, test plans, reports, and perform tolerance analysis Prepare trades studies and milestone review presentations Prepare ICD, N2 Interaction matrices and Interface Summary Sheets Prepare requirement specifications and provide verification reporting Perform structural analysis on secondary structures bracket designs Other duties as assigned Why you? Basic Qualifications for Level 2: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil (Structural) Engineering or equivalent with 2 years of professional experience - OR - Master's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil (Structural) Engineering or equivalent Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance- Solid modeling experience (NX is preferred)
- Experience with mechanical design including fastener selection and tolerance studies
- Basic understanding of manufacturing processes Excellent written and oral communication skills Understanding of GD&T and drawing preparation skills Preferred Qualifications for Level 2 Some exposure to rocket motor design or related aerospace discipline a plus Experience with finite element (FE) analysis a plus Curious, self-motivated and detail-oriented Curious about all the exciting developments with the Northrop Grumman Space Sector?
