Job Description

The Energy Marshal is responsible for the planning, coordination, and safe execution of all energized work activities on mission critical/data center construction projects. This role ensures strict compliance with energy isolation procedures, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) programs, and commissioning protocols to prevent incidents involving electrical, mechanical, and stored energy systems. The Energy Marshal serves as the authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) for energy control onsite and works closely with commissioning teams, subcontractors, and project leadership to ensure all systems are safely energized, de-energized, and tested.
Key Responsibilities Energy Control & LOTO Management:
Develop, implement, and enforce site-specific LOTO procedures Verify proper isolation of all energy sources Maintain and audit LOTO logs and documentation Serve as primary approval authority for energy isolation
Energization & Commissioning Oversight :
Coordinate energization plans for electrical systems Partner with commissioning teams during startup and testing Review MOPs, SOPs, and EOPs Ensure safety requirements are met prior to energization
Safety Leadership & Compliance:
Enforce OSHA and
NFPA 70E
standards Lead daily coordination meetings Exercise stop work authority when needed
Permitting & Risk Management:
Review and approve energized work permits Conduct hazard and arc flash assessments Ensure proper PPE is used
Inspections & Audits:
Perform inspections of energized work areas Audit subcontractor compliance Track corrective actions
Training & Mentorship:
Provide LOTO and hazard awareness training Mentor field teams and subcontractors
Qualifications Required:
5-10+ years of construction safety or electrical experience Strong knowledge of electrical systems and LOTO Knowledge of OSHA and
NFPA 70E
Ability to read electrical drawings
Preferred:
OSHA 30 Certification
NFPA 70E
