Job Description
Lab Engineer, School of Engineering Widener University United States, Pennsylvania, Chester 1 University Place (Show on map) May 19, 2026 Widener University is seeking a Lab Engineer in the School of Engineering. Reporting jointly to the Chairs of the Biomedical Engineering and Chemical and Materials Engineering Departments, this position supports the instructional and research laboratories within both departments. Responsibilities include maintaining the safe and effective operation of laboratory facilities and equipment, supporting faculty and students in laboratory and research activities, and assisting with engineering outreach, recruitment, and student engagement initiatives across the School of Engineering.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
(including, but not limited to):Essential Duties:
Assemble, set up, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments, equipment, and supplies for chemical and biomedical engineering laboratories Handle, store, and preserve chemicals; oversee laboratory safety protocols; monitor chemical waste; and coordinate the proper disposal of hazardous materials in accordance with applicable regulations Assist faculty and students in the Chemical & Materials Engineering and Biomedical Engineering Departments during laboratory classes, including training, assisting, and supervising students in the safe and effective operation of laboratory equipment Support School of Engineering outreach, recruitment, and student engagement activities Assist faculty and students in the Chemical & Materials Engineering and Biomedical Engineering Departments with research initiatives, senior design projects, and other scholarly activities Serve as the safety point-of-contact for theSOE. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
(education/training and experience required):Required:
Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field with 2 years of relevant experience Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision on multiple tasks Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills Strong organizational and time management skills Experience with 3D printers and CNC machines Experience using Microsoft office suite and other technology toolsPreferred:
Master's degree in engineering or related field Previous experience in engineering or science laboratories Experience with machine shop operationsPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND/OR UNUSUAL HOURS
Some flexibility to work evenings and weekends may be required for events.
