Job Summary We are seeking a candidate to fill an Assistant Research Scientist position in Prof. Xudong Fan's lab at the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Michigan. This position starts on July 1, 2026 with a duration of one year. It is renewable pending performance and funding. The details of the position can be found in the subsequent section. The specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Develop components used in micro-gas chromatography devices Develop and construct micro-gas chromatography devices Work with clinical collaborators and use the micro-gas chromatography devices to analyze breath and sweat, and body odor Work with non-clinical collaborators to conduct vapor analysis in non-clinical applications Lead a biomedical engineering team Mentor graduate students and undergraduate students Develop algorithms in vapor analysis Submit technical reports Write manuscripts and present results Write proposals Required Qualifications• Ph.D. in engineering, analytical chemistry, gas chromatography, gas sensing; >8 years of post-doctor or equivalent experience. Desired Qualifications• Breath analysis, sweat analysis, vapor analysis, experience in clinical projects, biomedical instrumentation.
