$21-41/hr About Us Recreational Electrical is a specialty vehicle upfitter serving primarily first responders and other government public works agencies. We build mission-ready vehicles equipped with lights, sirens, communication systems, and more. Every vehicle we build is a tool that someone's life may depend on. We design and manufacture our own electrical harnesses in-house , and we're committed to implementing lean manufacturing principles that drive quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement across everything we do. We're looking for a Vehicle Electrical Harness Designer who loves building things, takes pride in seeing their work come to life in the real world, and thrives in a collaborative engineering environment. What You'll Do Harness Design & Documentation Use Cadonix software to draw schematics and wiring harnesses for 12V DC automotive electrical systems. Design and continuously improve formboards to optimize production flow and ergonomics. Maintain and improve the company's in-house harness MES software (involves heavy use of AI tools). While this is primarily a computer-based design role, you'll also spend time on the production floor — taking vehicle measurements, collaborating with the harness team, and reviewing builds in progress. Quality & Process Control Create, implement, and maintain quality control standards for harness design and production. Develop process controls to ensure consistency and reliability across builds. Support lean manufacturing initiatives by identifying waste, improving flow, and standardizing work. Collaboration & Cross-Functional Work Collaborate with fabrication engineers to ensure harnesses fit properly and function reliably within the vehicle. Partner with the harness production team to support process improvement and maintain quality —not as a manager, but as a strong collaborative partner who takes healthy ownership of design and supports the teams building and installing your designs. Future Growth Opportunities Limited 3D CAD work in Fusion 360 for component placement is a future responsibility. Training would be provided. Who You Are You take ownership. What We're Looking For Requirements:
Ability to read and understand instructions and safety documentation in English. Ability to accurately read a tape measure. Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and harness drawings. Willingness to work on the production floor with harness technicians when needed.
Preferred:
Strong understanding of 12V DC electrical systems in automotive or specialty vehicle applications. Experience with Cadonix Arcadia or similar harness design software. Experience with creating electrical schematics. Comfort working with AI software and a willingness to learn and help improve in-house systems. Genuine interest in building things and seeing real-world outcomes. Familiarity with formboard design and harness manufacturing processes. Experience in lean manufacturing environments. Quality control or process documentation experience. 3D CAD experience (Fusion 360) is a plus.
