Storm Duty Requirements Tampa Electric and its sister companies serve a role in providing critical services to our community during an emergency. Team members are required to participate in the response/recovery activities related to emergencies/disasters to maintain service to our Tampa Electric customers. Team members are required to work in their normal job duties or other assigned activities. Proper compensation will be made in accordance with the company's rules and procedures. POSITION CONCEPT
Designer Drafter The Designer Drafter
  • Substation Eng is responsible for creating, revising, maintaining, and developing engineering drawings and documentation supporting the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of substation relay and control, structures and equipment, RTU, and related facilities.
Responsibilities include preparing construction drawings, one-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, equipment layouts, and related engineering documentation while adhering to Tampa Electric Company standards, schedules, and applicable industry codes.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Read and understand standard to complex work requests, blueprints, and field sketches to create or make changes to associated drawings & maps. Apply drafting skills and principles to create, revise, maintain, and archive substation drawings, & maps. Verify that completed work, both electronic and plotted, is correct, and accurate. (40%) Create plots for all drawing products including standard to complex, large sized requests. Prepare and lay out standard to complex drafting projects including written procedures necessary to implement the project such as specification details, switching instructions, and legal documentation. (20%) Provide support and training of CAD systems and support the development of drafting standards and procedures. Continually improve technical competency through formal and informal training in CAD software, engineering practices, company standards, and emerging technologies. (20%) Guide and instruct team members in drafting techniques and principles. (10%) Translate and interpret vendor and customer supplied CAD and other drafting files. (10%)

QUALIFICATIONS
Education Required:
High School Diploma or equivalent and formal drafting courses.
Preferred:
Associate degree in drafting technology.
Licenses/Certifications Required:
Valid driver's license.
Related Experience Required:
3 years of related work experience designing electric utility substations, including relay and control, physical, structural, and/or RTU systems.
Preferred:
5 years of related work experience designing electric utility substations, including relay and control, physical, structural, and/or or RTU systems.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
AutoCAD/Auto Desk Suite of Products.
Preferred:
MicroStation Software Familiarity.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Travel from home office to the entire Tampa Electric service territory is expected and could be frequent. Working outdoors in hot, humid, wet and/or cold conditions 5% of the workday. Working some overtime (nights, weekends, and holidays).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ REQUIREMENTS
Walking, bending, climbing 10% to 20% of the workday. Sitting at a desk / computer workstation up to 80% of the workday. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. 2.) Designer Drafter Sr. Reports directly to the Supervisor of the Designer Drafter Team. Responsible for preparing and revising design drawings from engineering principles and concepts while adhering to Tampa Electric Co. standards, industry standards, schedules, and other controlling factors. Works directly in support of engineering projects and performs leadership, drafting and design services for construction and maintenance substation projects of varying size and scope. Provides direction, mentoring, and feedback to other CAD drafters assigned to the team.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
( in addition to those of Designer Drafter) Working with Sr. Manager Substation & Transmission Engineering, establishes, and maintains standards for CAD drafting and standardized presentation of information on design drawings. Continually improves design, drafting and leadership skills by training and ongoing experience. Maintains a high level of proficiency in high-quality drawing production using CAD softwar(30%) Provides training, mentoring, feedback, and guidance to others in the use of CAD software to produce drawings within the framework of established standards, processes, and procedures. (20%) Identifies and evaluates CAD software products to identify innovative and value-added purchase opportunities.(10%) Collaborates with IT Asset Management to ensure proper and timely acquisition, assignment, and installation of licenses for Energy Delivery CAD users. (10%) May provide direction, instruction, guidance, and review of the work of others on technical matters pertinent to project assignments. (10%) Coordinates Designer Drafter's work assignments including estimation, delegation, and monitoring of assignments. Reviews work of other drafters for quality control purposes. (10%)Performs unstructured tasks related to CAD drafting including, but not limited to developing site laydown plans and maps for other non-construction purposes needed by the Energy Delivery business unit. (10%)
SUPERVISION
Direct Supervision:
N/A Indirect Supervision:
Indirect leadership responsibility to give guidance to and train design/drafters, co-ops and others outside of the drafting department in drawing set up, standards, and techniques used at Tampa Electric Company.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education Required:
H.S. Diploma or equivalent, and formal drafting courses.
Preferred:
An Associate Degree in drafting technology
Related Experience Required:
Minimum of seven (7) years related work experience.
Related experience consisting of:
power generating facilities and/or electric delivery design principles and construction work packages. College degree as described above may be considered in lieu of equivalent experience.
Preferred:
At least 2 years of experience within the power delivery industry.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required:
Strong knowledge of Substation Engineering. Strong knowledge of construction methods and field experience. High level degree of knowledge of CAD, Work Package assembly, maintaining CAD templates and tools, and Substation Operations construction means and methods.
Preferred:
The ability to guide and train a work group. Strong leadership skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ REQUIREMENTS
Walking, bending, climbing 10% to 20% of the workday. Sitting at a desk / computer workstation up to 80% of the workday. This position can require climbing stairs and scaffolding, utilizing safety harnesses, respiratory protection and other PPE required by the work environment and in accordance with OSHA requirements.
