Overall Purpose of the Job As a member of the Engineering team, the Designer/Drafter is responsible for producing accurate, high-quality engineering documentation and 3D models that support the successful execution of projects. Working under the direction of Engineers and Engineering Management, the role translates design concepts, calculations, and technical requirements into detailed manufacturing, assembly, and installation documentation.

The Designer/Drafter ensures that all engineering deliverables are completed in accordance with applicable standards, company procedures, and project schedules while maintaining a high level of quality, accuracy, and attention to detail. This position plays a critical role in supporting product design, development, manufacturing, procurement, and project execution activities. Key Activities and Accountabilities Engineering Documentation Development Create, revise, and maintain detailed engineering drawings, 3D models, assemblies, bills of materials (BOMs), layouts, fabrication drawings, installation drawings, and schematics in accordance with project requirements and company drafting standards. Ensure all documentation is complete, accurate, and suitable for manufacturing, procurement, assembly, and customer deliverables. Design Support and Detailing Support engineers in the development and refinement of mechanical and structural designs by preparing detailed models and drawings from engineering concepts, calculations, specifications, and marked-up documents. Assist with design modifications, engineering change requests, and product improvement initiatives. Model and Drawing Verification Perform detailed checking and validation of drawings and CAD models to ensure accuracy, completeness, dimensional integrity, and compliance with design intent, engineering standards, customer specifications, and quality requirements. Identify discrepancies, potential conflicts, or manufacturability concerns and communicate findings to the engineering team. Document and Configuration Management Create, release, revise, and maintain engineering documentation within the Product Data Management (PDM) system. Ensure proper document control, revision management, and configuration tracking throughout the product lifecycle. Technical Data Management Maintain engineering databases and project records by accurately entering and updating design information, BOMs, material specifications, and related technical documentation. Utilize various engineering software applications and tools to support design, documentation, and project execution activities. Cross-Functional Collaboration Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Project Management, and Service teams to obtain information, resolve technical issues, and ensure alignment of project requirements. Coordinate with external suppliers, customers, and consultants when required to clarify technical details and support project execution. Participation in Engineering Reviews Actively participate in engineering meetings, design reviews, project planning sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives. Contribute ideas and recommendations that improve design quality, efficiency, manufacturability, and standardization. Schedule and Workload Management Plan and prioritize assigned work to meet project milestones and engineering schedules while maintaining quality and accuracy. Communicate progress, risks, resource constraints, and schedule concerns to Engineering Management in a timely manner. Standards Compliance and Continuous Improvement Ensure all work complies with applicable industry standards, company procedures, customer requirements, and drafting best practices. Support the development and improvement of engineering processes, templates, standards, and document control practices. Job Knowledge and Qualifications Required Qualifications Associate degree, technical diploma, or equivalent qualification in Drafting, Design Technology, Engineering Technology, Mechanical Design, or a related technical discipline. Minimum of 4 years of experience in a design, drafting, or engineering support role within a manufacturing, industrial equipment, heavy machinery, structural, or related engineering environment. Proficiency in one or more industry-standard CAD platforms, including: SolidWorks Autodesk Inventor AutoCAD AvEVA/Advitium (or comparable engineering software) Required Knowledge and Skills Strong understanding of engineering drawings, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), drafting standards, and manufacturing documentation practices. Experience creating and maintaining detailed 3D models, assemblies, and fabrication drawings. Working knowledge of Product Data Management (PDM) systems, document control processes, and revision management. Ability to interpret engineering calculations, specifications, design requirements, and customer standards. Familiarity with bills of materials (BOMs), material specifications, and engineering change processes. Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify errors, inconsistencies, and design conflicts. Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively within cross-functional teams. Strong organizational, time-management, and workload prioritization skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and other engineering-related software tools. Preferred Qualifications Experience in lifting equipment, cranes, heavy mechanical equipment, oil and gas, material handling, or other industrial equipment industries. Knowledge of manufacturing processes, fabrication methods, welding practices, and assembly techniques. Experience supporting engineering design reviews and product development projects.
