At TDM, we use 21st Century manufacturing processes such as 3D design and printing, laser cutting, and automation for prototype and low volume manufacturing of components of current and future Ford vehicles. At our Chicago modification center facility, we do state of the art vehicle modifications for multiple police interceptor platforms. PRIMARY PURPOSE
With minimal supervision, provides an advanced level of CAD support in order to create / update 3D models. Ensures the timely delivery of the department's deliverables, mentors and trains others, and participates/leads in meetings involving customers and team members.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide an advanced level of CAD support in order to create / update 3D and 2D models Prepares / updates 2D / 3D drawings / files of automotive systems and components according to requirements per activity / vehicle / sub-system. Generates, reviews and/or maintains design related project documentation. Supports CAD data analysis and vehicle level and packaging studies. High level of familiarity with design requirements and standards [CAD, PLM, CAE, data transfer, design integrity, materials, and tolerances. Releases and manages CAD data (3D, 2D) to/in a PLM system (Teamcenter). Manages transfer of CAD data from/to customers, suppliers and service providers. Assists Product Engineering during all program timing phases (concept, build, dimensional layouts, measurement data evaluation, trouble-shooting, fixture design). Attends customer meetings representing TDM and to acquire project / program information. Participates in global area team meetings (web-meetings / phone conferences). Receive incoming data, perform necessary translations, organize & rename files as appropriate Assist in resolving data issues Design or enhance part surfaces for position in the model build Designer will take data and information from the concept stage to completion where it can then be given to the manufacturing department to develop the actual deliverables. (Templates, robot programs, etc.) from the CAD models they have created Develop process efficiencies such as Tips and Techniques, Macros, UDFs. Develop training materials and train and assist other team members. Provides an advanced level of support in the development of, initiatives to improve quality, and cost reduction opportunities. Monitor deliverables and ensure timely and quality delivery. Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM
REQUIRED
High school diploma or higher education Minimum of 5 years CAD experience A willingness to learn new CAD and related software as necessary Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Moderate knowledge of entire suite of Microsoft Office tools. Knowledgeable in Automotive Assembly Process. Moderate knowledge of GD&T. Must be able to work independently. Must be a self-starter with a strong desire to excel and ability to prioritize while meeting deadlines.
PREFERRED
The minimum requirements; in addition to the listed items. Completion of Accredited CAD program Advanced knowledge of CAD files, standards and practices. Advanced knowledge of entire suite of Microsoft Office tools Five years directly related employment experience. Experience with working in global team environments is beneficial.
