Job Description
Position Summary Piedmont Metals is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Tekla Detailer to support the design, detailing, and fabrication of structural and miscellaneous steel projects. This role is responsible for creating fabrication and erection drawings using Tekla Structures and CAD software, interpreting architectural and structural drawings, and ensuring all project documentation meets customer specifications and AISC standards. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, possesses strong technical and problem-solving skills, and works collaboratively with engineering, project management, sales, and production teams to ensure projects are completed accurately and on schedule. Key Responsibilities Create detailed fabrication and erection drawings for structural and miscellaneous steel components. Read and interpret architectural and structural design drawings, specifications, and contract documents. Use Tekla Structures to develop and manage 3D models and 2D shop drawings. Collaborate with engineers, project managers, sales personnel, and shop personnel to resolve design and fabrication challenges. Prepare approval, permit, anchor rod, and installation drawings. Manage part uploads and drawing releases through the company's manufacturing system. Ensure drawing accuracy and compliance with AISC standards, project specifications, and customer requirements. Review project details and identify potential design, fabrication, or constructability issues. Participate in project meetings and support project planning initiatives. Maintain organized project documentation and revision control. Support continuous improvement initiatives related to detailing, drafting, and production processes. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required High School Diploma or equivalent. Minimum 2 years of experience in structural steel detailing, drafting, CAD, or a related field. Experience reading and interpreting architectural and structural drawings. Experience using Tekla Structures, CAD software, or similar detailing platforms. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Strong organizational and communication skills. Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Preferred Technical certification in Tekla Structures, CAD, Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related field. 4+ years of experience in structural steel detailing or related industry experience. Experience with AISC standards and structural steel fabrication processes. Experience in structural steel manufacturing, fabrication, or construction environments. Knowledge of shop drawing development and erection drawing preparation. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Proficiency with Tekla Structures and CAD software. Ability to create and manage 3D models and detailed fabrication drawings. Knowledge of structural steel fabrication and erection practices. Understanding of AISC standards and industry best practices. Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. Excellent organization and time management abilities. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, project management, sales, and production teams. Reliable, detail-oriented, and process-driven approach to work. Physical Requirements Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer workstation for extended periods. Ability to occasionally walk through manufacturing and production areas. Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift throughout the workday as needed. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds periodically. Comfortable working in both office and manufacturing environments. Ability to work in varying temperatures and environmental conditions, including heat, cold, dust, and noise when entering production areas. What Success Looks Like Accurate and timely completion of fabrication and erection drawings. High-quality 3D models and shop drawings with minimal revisions. Compliance with AISC standards, project specifications, and customer requirements. Effective communication and collaboration with project teams. Timely resolution of design and detailing challenges. Successful support of project schedules, fabrication operations, and customer expectations.
