The Junior Technical Designer position at ShowFab handles: Utilizing CAD/CAM and other software to develop fabrication solutions for a team of highly skilled and dedicated craftsmen. Translating conceptual design intent into practical, buildable fabrication strategies. Producing fabrication drawing packages, assemblies, and CNC-ready geometry. Collaborating daily with Clients, Project Managers, Production teams, and other project stakeholders. Participating in drawing reviews, revision cycles, and technical coordination meetings. Surveying work sites, venues, specialty equipment, and technology as required. Working with Architects, Engineers, Vendors, and Fabricators to tailor solutions that meet design criteria, fabrication constraints, and project scope. Contacting vendors to source materials, samples, hardware, and cut sheets. Supporting fabrication workflows involving CNC Routers, Lasers, Press Brakes, Water Jet Technology, and other modern fabrication systems. Contributing to the organization and development of Bills of Materials, fabrication standards, and project documentation.
The ideal candidate has:
Minimum 2-5 years of relevant experience in Technical Design, Drafting, Fabrication, Architecture, Industrial Design, Scenic Design, or related industries. Strong time management and organizational skills. Strong communication and collaboration skills. Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor or similar parametric CAD software. Proficiency in standard Microsoft, Adobe, Google, and Slack work suites. Familiarity with fabrication methods, materials, tolerances, and production workflows. Practical shop and fabrication experience is strongly preferred. Ability to balance speed, accuracy, and buildability in a deadline-driven environment. Technical schooling, vocational training, higher education, or equivalent practical experience in a relevant field is welcomed. Desire to continue developing technical judgment, fabrication awareness, and project ownership skills within a collaborative team environment.
