Construction Layout CAD Technician Position Summary The Construction Layout CAD Technician is responsible for preparing accurate construction layout calculations, stakeout data, and CAD drawings that support field survey crews and construction projects. This office-based position works closely with surveyors, engineers, project managers, and field personnel to transform engineering plans into precise layout files for construction staking. This individual serves as the technical bridge between engineering design and field execution by performing coordinate geometry, construction calculations, and CAD drafting while ensuring layouts are accurate, complete, and buildable. The ideal candidate possesses a well-rounded understanding of land surveying, civil engineering, site development, and construction practices.

None Essential Duties and Responsibilities Prepare construction layout drawings, stakeout exhibits, and field packages using AutoCAD Civil 3D and related surveying software. Generate construction layout calculations for buildings, foundations, roadways, utilities, stormwater systems, grading, retaining walls, and other site improvements. Develop stakeout coordinate files for GPS and robotic total stations. Review engineering plans, grading plans, utility plans, and site development drawings to determine layout requirements. Perform coordinate geometry (COGO), boundary analysis, horizontal and vertical calculations, and construction computations. Prepare cut/fill information, offsets, elevations, alignments, profiles, and grade calculations for field crews. Process field data and integrate survey information into CAD drawings. Produce as-built drawings from field-collected data. Verify the accuracy and completeness of construction layout calculations prior to field deployment. Collaborate with licensed surveyors, civil engineers, project managers, and field crews to resolve design conflicts and answer layout questions. Identify inconsistencies between survey data, engineering plans, and existing site conditions. Assist with preparing subdivision maps, site plans, topographic surveys, boundary surveys, ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, and construction documents as needed. Maintain organized digital project files, coordinate databases, and drafting standards. Support field personnel by providing technical guidance on layout methodology and construction calculations. Assist with research of deeds, plats, easements, right-of-way documents, and survey records when required. Ensure all work complies with company standards, client specifications, and applicable surveying regulations. Perform other drafting, surveying, and technical support duties as assigned. Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering Technology, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred. Minimum of 3 years of experience in surveying, civil engineering, or construction layout preferred. Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D required. Experience with Trimble Business Center, Carlson Survey, MicroStation, or similar surveying software preferred. Strong understanding of coordinate geometry, survey computations, and construction layout principles. Experience preparing GPS and robotic total station stakeout files preferred. Valid driver's license preferred. Skills & Abilities Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and surveying software. Strong understanding of construction plans, grading plans, utility plans, profiles, cross-sections, and civil engineering drawings. Ability to perform complex surveying and construction calculations with a high degree of accuracy. Knowledge of coordinate systems, datums, benchmarks, and control networks. Strong mathematical skills, including geometry, trigonometry, and coordinate geometry. Ability to independently analyze engineering plans and develop complete construction layout packages. Excellent organizational, documentation, and file management skills. Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines in a fast-paced project environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with office staff and field survey crews while providing technical support.
