Hiring a CAD Drafter - Custom Millwork! Job Description This role focuses on translating architectural and design intent into accurate shop drawings and 3D models for custom millwork, casework, cabinetry, and fixtures. You will support both new construction and renovation projects, working closely with design, engineering, production, and project management teams to ensure that all drawings are precise, buildable, and aligned with project timelines. The position requires daily use of AutoCAD, strong attention to detail, and the ability to interpret and document complex millwork and architectural requirements from concept through final fabrication. Responsibilities Translate architectural and design intent into detailed shop drawings that clearly show how millwork components, cabinetry, and fixtures fit together. Create precise technical drawings, shop drawings, and 3D models for custom millwork, casework, cabinetry, counters, built-ins, moldings, and fixtures using AutoCAD and other drafting tools. Draft layouts for residential projects, restaurant interiors, retail build-outs and fit-outs, and other commercial spaces with a focus on custom millwork. Conduct field visits and on-site measurements to verify existing conditions and ensure dimensional accuracy before drafting and fabrication. Interpret project specifications and architectural blueprints to ensure compliance with industry standards and company practices. Prepare detailed cut lists and send accurate part files to CNC machines for fabrication in the attached production warehouse. Identify and resolve potential assembly conflicts and constructability issues in the drawings before they reach the shop floor. Collaborate closely with engineers, project managers, designers, and shop personnel throughout the design and production process. Maintain organized documentation, drawing sets, revisions, and records to stay aligned with project schedules and milestones. Oversee all drafting-related aspects of assigned projects, from initial field verification through final fabrication handoff. Use AutoCAD on a daily basis to produce and revise drawings and models to company standards. Incorporate feedback from design, engineering, and production teams into updated drawings and 3D models. Support both renovation and new construction projects, ensuring that drawings reflect real-world site conditions and constraints. Apply knowledge of joinery, millwork construction, and woodworking techniques to create accurate and buildable details. Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders to clarify requirements, resolve questions, and keep projects moving forward. Participate in training to learn and apply company-specific drafting standards, processes, and workflows. Essential Skills At least 1+ years of experience in drafting, preferably in architectural or millwork-related roles (open to more experienced candidates). Proficiency in AutoCAD with the ability to use it daily to produce precise technical and shop drawings. Experience drafting architectural drawings or millwork, including cabinetry, built-ins, casework, and custom fixtures. Ability to create and interpret detailed architectural blueprints and construction documents. Strong understanding of millwork, joinery, and woodworking techniques as they relate to drafting and fabrication. Experience with 3D modeling tools such as SketchUp or SolidWorks to create accurate models of millwork and fixtures. Demonstrated millwork drafting experience, including custom casework and cabinetry. Capability to prepare cut lists and coordinate with CNC machining processes. Strong architectural detailing skills, particularly for custom millwork and interior fit-outs. Effective communication skills to collaborate with design, production, and project management teams. Reliable, detail-oriented work style with excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities. Ability to maintain organized documentation and manage multiple projects or tasks within established timelines. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with Microvellum is a significant plus and highly valued. Hands-on cabinet and built-in experience is a strong advantage. Experience drafting for residential, restaurant, and retail build-outs or fit-outs. Familiarity with CAD tools beyond AutoCAD, including SolidWorks and SketchUp. Prior experience in a millwork drafting or engineering role is preferred. Bachelor's degree or relevant technical certification in architecture, engineering, or a related field is a plus. Strong general CAD skills and comfort working with various technical drafting software. Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work closely with designers and production staff throughout the workday.
