Engineering Estimator / CAD Drafter A leading manufacturer in the work truck industry, is searching for an Engineering Estimator / CAD Drafter to complement the skills and talents of our Engineering Department.
Primary Job Duties:
Create, modify, and maintain product assembly costings and routings for new and existing products with a high degree of accuracy Translate engineering designs into structured, manufacturable assembly processes, including sequencing, labor assumptions, and material flow Develop cost estimates for assemblies by analyzing labor content, purchased components, and fabrication inputs Work closely with engineering to interpret CAD models, drawings, and specifications and ensure alignment between design intent and manufacturing execution Create, update, and improve CAD models and technical drawings, ensuring that product definition is complete, accurate, and supports production needs Drive improvements to drawing quality, clarity, and completeness, including dimensions, notes, and assembly instructions Collaborate with engineers to refine product designs and resolve gaps in technical definition, ensuring designs are fully manufacturable and documented Ensure consistency between CAD data, BOMs, and routings, maintaining alignment across ERP and engineering systems Partner with operations teams to validate routings and confirm alignment with actual assembly processes and workflow constraints Communicate product and part information clearly across Engineering, Supply Chain, and Operations Support resolution of production issues related to assembly flow, documentation gaps, or routing inaccuracies Participate in improvement projects to encode improved costing logic based opportunities from our continuous improvement and manufacturing teams, promoting assembly efficiency, standard work, and one-piece flow Identify inconsistencies or inefficiencies in product definition and support continuous improvement of engineering data and processes This job posting describes the general nature and level of work expected for this role and is not an exhaustive list of responsibilities. Skills/ Experience:
Experience working with product cost estimation, routings, or manufacturing data in a production environment Proficiency in CAD modeling and drawing creation/modification (Creo or similar systems preferred) Strong understanding of assembly processes and product structure in a multi-component manufacturing environment Required to have basic familiarity with fabrication and welding processes, including how they influence downstream assembly Desired to have working knowledge of forming and machining processes.
Working knowledge of:
Fasteners, adhesives, and gaskets, hinges, latches, and enclosure hardware, wire harnesses and electrical routing, hydraulic and pneumatic components, packaging methods and material handling considerations Experience collaborating with engineering teams to develop and refine technical product definition (models, drawings, and documentation) Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation with strong attention to detail Experience supporting or participating in lean manufacturing or workflow improvement initiatives (preferred) Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work cross-functionally Self-motivated and process-oriented, with a focus on accuracy, consistency, and continuous improvement
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
Ability to work in both office and production environments, including time spent reviewing assembly processes and validating product data Ability to remain stationary for extended periods while working in CAD systems and data tools Mobility to access workstations, file storage, and production areas
