Job Description

Job Title:
MicroStation & CAD Designer Position Overview The MicroStation & CAD Designer is responsible for developing accurate, detailed technical drawings using CAD software based on instructions, sketches, and project layouts. This role collaborates closely with engineers and project teams to deliver high‑quality designs and documentation across a variety of projects. Key Responsibilities Produce drawings using MicroStation and other CAD platforms (e.g., AutoCAD) in accordance with project requirements and drafting standards. Implement drawing updates, modifications, and revisions as directed by engineers or project managers. Receive and apply supervision, guidance, and quality reviews to ensure accuracy and compliance. Follow established drafting practices and procedures to create clear, precise technical documentation. Communicate effectively with internal teams to understand project goals, technical requirements, and deadlines. Execute 3D design work for custom equipment, including physical layouts, elevations, and detailed section views. Develop comprehensive Bills of Material (BOM) for all designs, ensuring accuracy and consistency. Collaborate with internal and external team members, including principal engineers, controls engineers, civil and electrical designers, project managers, and engineering leadership. Contribute to cost‑reduction initiatives through vendor selection, design optimization, process improvements, automation, and new product introduction. Support adherence to project quality standards and ISO9001-related procedures. Essential Skills Proficiency with CAD software, especially MicroStation. 4+ years of relevant industry experience. Strong 3D modeling, CAD design, and drafting capabilities. Experience with Bentley Substation (preferred but not required). Proficiency with Autodesk and Bentley. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Additional Qualifications Associate degree in Technology, Drafting, or a related field; or completion of a relevant vocational/technical program. Fundamental understanding of drafting practices, standards, and procedures. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Schenectady, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $46.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
