Civil CAD Technician / Civil Designer Job Description This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a wide range of municipal and land development projects as a Civil CAD Technician / Civil Designer. You will use Civil 3D daily to produce high-quality civil engineering designs, drawings, and plans that support infrastructure, drainage, grading, and site development efforts. You will collaborate closely with engineers and project teams to deliver client-centric solutions that support community development and long-term growth. Responsibilities Produce detailed civil design drawings and plans for municipal and land development projects using Civil 3D on a daily basis. Prepare and revise site plans, grading plans, drainage plans, and related civil engineering drawings in accordance with project requirements and applicable standards. Support civil engineers and project managers by translating conceptual designs and engineering calculations into accurate, constructible CAD models and drawings. Assist with the design and drafting of municipal infrastructure, including roadways, utilities, stormwater systems, and related site improvements. Incorporate professional engineering guidance, redlines, and feedback into updated drawings and design documents. Coordinate with internal team members to ensure that design deliverables meet scope, schedule, and quality expectations. Contribute to land development layouts, including lot configurations, access, grading, and drainage features that align with regulatory and client requirements. Help identify potential design issues or conflicts in plans and communicate them to the project team for resolution. Maintain organized project files, CAD standards, and drawing templates to support efficient project delivery. Participate in occasional field site visits to gather information, observe existing conditions, and support the accuracy of design work. Essential Skills 5+ years of experience in civil design, with a focus on municipal and/or land development projects. Proficiency in Autodesk Civil 3D, with the ability to use the software daily for design and drafting tasks. Hands-on experience with civil engineering design and drafting, including grading, drainage, and site plan development. Strong civil CAD drafting skills and familiarity with civil design standards and practices. Experience supporting municipal engineering projects and/or land development initiatives. Ability to interpret engineering sketches, markups, and design criteria and convert them into accurate CAD drawings. Attention to detail and commitment to producing precise, high-quality drawings and design documents. Effective communication and collaboration skills to work closely with engineers and project teams. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working alongside professional engineers on multidisciplinary civil projects. Background in municipal engineering, including exposure to roadways, utilities, and stormwater systems. Experience with land development projects, including site planning, grading, and drainage design. Familiarity with industry standards and local regulations related to municipal and land development design. Ability to adapt to dynamic project needs and contribute to innovative, client-focused solutions. Strong problem-solving mindset with an interest in discovering new approaches and perspectives in civil design. Work Environment The position is primarily office-based, with most work performed in a professional, collaborative environment using Civil 3D and related design tools. The schedule typically follows a Monday through Friday workweek, with flexible hours totaling approximately 40-50 hours per week. The role follows a hybrid arrangement with three days in the office and two days that can be worked remotely, providing a balance of in-person collaboration and focused independent work. The position also includes some field site visits to observe existing conditions and support accurate, practical design solutions. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Plymouth, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $95000.00/yr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
