Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Structural CAD Technician to join our structural team in Chicago. The successful candidate will work on bridge design and infrastructure projects, producing high-quality technical drawings using Bentley MicroStation ORD. Working alongside our engineers and project managers, you will take a lead role in plan production and contribute to project delivery across a variety of bridge rehabilitation and new construction assignments.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for understanding the work assigned to them or asking their supervisor to clarify the assignment. Prepare and lead production of structural drawings for bridge projects using Bentley MicroStation. Develop plan sheets, details, cross-sections, and elevation drawings for bridge design and rehabilitation projects. Revise and quality-check drawings based on engineer, project manager, and client feedback. Organize and maintain drawing files, project documentation, and CAD standards libraries. Coordinate with structural engineers to ensure accuracy, completeness, and conformance with project requirements. Follow and enforce established CAD standards and drafting conventions across the project team. Coordinate work with other technicians and engineers; provide guidance to junior team members as needed. Assist or work independently on plan preparation and milestone submittals. Understand and manage various DOT and agency specifications, standards, and CADD requirements. Perform
CADD QC/QA
reviews of drawings for conformance with client and agency requirements. Maintain proper filing, documentation, and drawing conventions and standards as established by company/clients. Participate in 3D modeling and rendering tasks using MicroStation ORD as required. May work overtime as directed by supervisor on an as-needed basis. Other duties may be assigned, both temporary and permanent.
Required Qualifications:
Associate's degree or Technician Certification in Civil/Structural Engineering Technology, Drafting, or a related field — or equivalent hands-on experience. 5-10 years of relevant CAD technician experience in a structural or civil engineering environment using various CADD products. Solid understanding of structural drafting principles, conventions, and plan production workflows. Proficiency in Bentley MicroStation required. OpenBridge Designer experience, a plus. Familiarity with DOT standards and agency-specific CADD requirements. Bridge detailing experience is strongly preferred. Ability to perform QC/QA reviews and ensure drawing accuracy across project milestones. Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
