Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking an experienced CAD Technician to support the design, documentation, reverse engineering, and modernization of mechanical and electronic systems. The ideal candidate will have strong practical CAD skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to independently produce accurate, manufacturing-ready models and drawings with minimal supervision. You will work closely with a small, high-performing team of engineers and technicians on a mix of new product development, reverse engineering, manufacturing support, and upgrades to legacy systems. This position is highly hands-on and requires the ability to work from physical hardware, engineering documentation, measurements, and direction from engineers to develop accurate and complete technical documentation.
Responsibilities:
Create and modify detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings Develop accurate CAD models and drawings from existing hardware, measurements, photographs, and engineering information Perform reverse engineering of mechanical components and assemblies, including taking measurements and determining appropriate dimensions and features Create detailed manufacturing drawings, fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, and other technical documentation Support engineers in developing mechanical components, enclosures, brackets, mounts, fixtures, and other hardware Independently incorporate engineering changes and revisions into existing models and drawings Maintain drawing revisions, part numbering, file organization, and configuration-controlled documentation Apply appropriate dimensions, tolerances, GD&T, notes, finishes, materials, and other manufacturing requirements to engineering drawings Develop and maintain bills of materials (BOMs) and assembly documentation Support manufacturing and fabrication efforts by providing accurate and complete drawings and models Develop CAD models and drawings for test fixtures, tooling, and laboratory equipment Work directly with engineers and technicians to resolve drawing, fit, form, and assembly issues Review CAD models and drawings for accuracy, completeness, and manufacturability Support documentation and modernization of legacy equipment and systems Collaborate across disciplines (mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, and test) to develop complete technical documentation Manage multiple projects and drawing packages while meeting schedule and quality requirements
What We're Looking For:
Strong, demonstrated CAD skills with the ability to work independently At least 5 years of professional CAD/drafting experience Excellent attention to detail and a high standard for technical accuracy Ability to understand mechanical components, assemblies, manufacturing processes, and how parts fit and function together Strong understanding of engineering drawings, dimensions, tolerances, and manufacturing requirements Hands-on mindset - comfortable working with physical hardware and taking precise measurements Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned work with minimal supervision Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and priorities Clear communication skills and ability to work effectively in a small, multidisciplinary team
Preferred Experience:
5+ years of professional CAD or drafting experience in an engineering or manufacturing environment Experience with reverse engineering or creating CAD models from existing hardware Experience creating detailed manufacturing drawings for machined, sheet metal, molded, cast, or fabricated components Strong understanding of GD&T and mechanical drawing standards Experience with design for manufacturing and assembly (DFMA) Experience creating assembly drawings, exploded views, and installation drawings Experience with mechanical fixtures, tooling, and test equipment Experience working with military, aerospace, or other high-reliability hardware Experience working in high-mix/low-volume manufacturing environments Familiarity with electrical/electronic assemblies and PCB layouts Experience with configuration-controlled or revision-controlled engineering documentation Experience working directly with machinists, fabricators, engineers, and manufacturing personnel
Tools & Skills:
Proficiency with professional 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, or similar) Strong ability to create detailed 2D manufacturing drawings from 3D models Strong understanding of GD&T, engineering tolerances, and mechanical drawing conventions Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation Experience with common manufacturing processes, including machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding, 3D printing, and additive manufacturing Proficiency with precision measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and other inspection equipment Proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar documentation tools Experience with PDM, PLM, or configuration management systems is a plus
Qualifications:
5+ years of professional CAD/drafting experience Associate's degree, technical degree, certificate, or equivalent professional experience in CAD, drafting, mechanical design, or a related field Demonstrated ability to independently produce manufacturing-ready CAD models and drawings U.S.
Citizen Security Clearance:
You MUST be a US Citizen to apply. This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret security clearance. Candidates without an active clearance will be sponsored and must be eligible for clearance.
Pay:
$60,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
