Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Missile Defense Integration offers an excellent opportunity for a Sr Principal Engineer Human Factor (26-178) to join our team of talented and diverse professionals. Located in Colorado Springs, CO, this role is essential for supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at the strategic, regional, and operational levels. This position does not provide relocation assistance and requires on-site work with no remote options.
Position Overview:
The Command, Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is a crucial component of the Missile Defense System. It is an essential operational system that enables the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at the strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, collectively monitor the battlefield, and dynamically control networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives. C2BMC supports layered missile defense capabilities that enable an optimized response to threats across all ranges and flight phases. It acts as a force multiplier by networking, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations worldwide and regionally to enhance performance. C2BMC is vital for all ground and flight tests that verify and demonstrate the current and future capabilities of missile defense systems. This position is for a Human Factors Engineer (HFE) on the C2BMC program. The candidate will support and execute a human factors engineering-based program while working as part of the User Interface software development team, recommending innovative solutions to new and existing problems. Strong communication, teamwork, and collaboration skills are essential for this role. The HFE engineer will serve as a liaison between software development teams, systems engineering teams, and other cross-functional roles. The successful candidate must ensure that the system's technical requirements are understood and implemented in a user-friendly manner.
Essential Functions:
  • Responsible for collecting and maintaining comprehensive user feedback and translating those needs into clear development tasks and user stories
  • Must serve as a technical interface for current and future system operators on Human Machine Interface (HMI) issues and regularly liaise with Missile Defense Agency counterparts
  • Will participate in ground and flight tests of the Missile Defense System, as well as other user-in-the-loop activities such as military exercises or wargames, to evaluate the usability of the C2BMC component within the Integrated Missile Defense System
  • Some travel will be necessary to C2BMC operational sites, customer locations, and other development facilities for this role
Basic Qualifications:
Please list your current security clearance and IAT or relevant certifications on your resume, if applicable.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Human Factor Engineering, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field from an accredited university, along with 8 years of experience; or a Master's degree in a related field with 6 years of relevant work experience; or 12 years of relevant work experience may be considered as an alternative to a degree
  • Applicants must have a current, active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start
  • Willingness to travel 10% of the time for business needs
  • Experience in developing and implementing a Human Factors Engineering (HFE) program based on
MIL-STD-46855A
guidelines, focusing on software-based User Interface (UI) designs, objectives, and user procedures, is essential
  • Strong knowledge and demonstrated experience in the application of military standards (e.
g., MIL-STD-1472 and
MIL-STD-2525
)
  • Communicating design requirements to software developers for Java applications and web-based products. Convey the designs to developers and verify that what they have built aligns with the intended purpose
  • Required capabilities include developing and validating analysis tools for wargames and exercises, performing data analysis, and preparing and presenting results
  • Experience in requirements engineering, use case development, and logical architecture modeling of the Missile Defense System's Command and Control Battle Management and Communications (C2BMC) Element
  • Experience in participating in Missile Defense System verification and validation tests, with the ability to independently and collaboratively develop test objectives, concepts, and architectures within the context of the Missile Defense System
  • Experience with Agile development methods, task tracking, issue resolution, and coordination
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong knowledge and experience with C2BMC
  • Strong knowledge and experience of Integrated Battle Management functions for

BMC Primary Level Salary Range:
$129,300.00 - $193,900.00 The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
