The Engineering Intern supports the engineering team in improving plant processes, equipment reliability, and operational efficiency within a sodium bicarbonate manufacturing facility. This role provides hands-on experience in a heavy industrial environment, assisting with data analysis, project coordination, process optimization, and documentation. The position plays a key role in supporting continuous improvement initiatives, capital projects, and troubleshooting efforts while gaining practical exposure to engineering applications in manufacturing.Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure full compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. Assist engineers with data collection, analysis, and reporting for process improvements and operational performance. Support ongoing capital and maintenance projects, including planning, tracking, and documentation. Participate in troubleshooting equipment and process issues alongside engineering and operations teams. Develop and update standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and technical documentation. Conduct time studies, process mapping, and efficiency evaluations. Assist in evaluating equipment performance and identifying opportunities for reliability improvements. Support continuous improvement initiatives such as Lean, Six Sigma, or other operational excellence efforts. Perform basic engineering calculations and assist with design modifications under supervision. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including operations, maintenance, and safety. Maintain accurate records, reports, and project documentation. Follow all company policies, procedures, and food safety requirements. Perform other duties as assigned.Education/Training:
Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial, or related field) required. Completion of sophomore year or higher preferred.Knowledge/Skills/Experience:
Basic understanding of engineering principles and manufacturing processes. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Familiarity with data analysis tools or CAD software is a plus. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to interpret technical data and drawings (preferred). Willingness to learn and work in an industrial plant environment.
