Process Engineer -
Injection Molding Metro Detroit, MI Salary:
$80,000 - $85,000 per year We are seeking a hands-on Process Engineer with strong experience in plastic injection molding. This role is heavily involved on the manufacturing floor and is ideal for someone who enjoys troubleshooting, developing processes, supporting new tooling, and improving production performance. We will also consider a strong Senior Process Technician who is ready to step into a Process Engineer role, provided they have a high level of technical injection molding experience. Responsibilities Develop, troubleshoot, and optimize injection molding processes. Support new mold trials, launches, machine startups, and production validation. Troubleshoot molding defects, tooling issues, machine problems, and process variation. Improve cycle times, scrap, quality, OEE, and overall process stability. Use scientific or decoupled molding principles to establish repeatable processes. Support DOE, process validation, process capability, and process window development. Work closely with Tooling, Maintenance, Quality, Engineering, and Production. Assist with mold setup, changeovers, startups, and process stabilization. Support robotics, automation, EOAT, hot runners, valve gates, and auxiliary equipment. Train and support Process Technicians and production personnel. Participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement activities. Qualifications Strong hands-on experience in plastic injection molding. Experience developing, troubleshooting, or optimizing molding processes. Strong understanding of molds, machines, materials, and process variables. Experience with new tool trials, mold setup, startups, and production support. Strong mechanical and technical troubleshooting skills. Manufacturing facility experience. Ability to work directly on the production floor. Preferred Scientific molding or decoupled molding experience. RJG, Paulson, AIM, or similar molding training. DOE and process validation experience. Process window development or capability studies. Robotics and automation experience. Hot runner, valve gate, gas-assist, two-shot, or over-molding experience. Automotive injection molding experience. Process Engineer experience is preferred, but we are open to strong Process Technicians with the technical ability and experience to make the step up.
