A Molding Process Engineer develops and engineers improvements in injection molding processes at a manufacturing company. Modifies or creates machines used for injection molding, assists with set up and troubleshooting for equipment, and develops materials to be inserted into molds to create products. Assists with implementing new production and process technologies.
Process Technician Responsibilities Oversee all aspects of the injection molding process, including process set-up, robotic operation, and tool effectiveness to execute the production schedule. Prepare and produce injection-molded components according to established process parameters and customer specifications. Ensure parts consistently meet required quality levels and customer expectations. Perform daily inspections, checklists, and troubleshooting of injection molding machinery and robotic systems. Identify and troubleshoot process issues that deviate from standard specifications, making appropriate adjustments to restore stable production. Achieve departmental goals by minimizing scrap, improving machine utilization, and contributing to improved overall equipment effectiveness (OEE). Transfer key information to the following shift regarding quality issues, process changes, and tooling-related concerns to ensure continuity of operations. Perform daily duties accurately and in a timely manner, including press startups, quality checks, and IQMS Real Time data inputs. Accurately and completely prepare all daily production-related documentation in a timely manner. Observe all safety rules and policies at all times, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Provide continuous improvement and cost-saving ideas related to injection molding processes or manufacturing assemblies. Collaborate with engineering to ensure processes remain robust and tooling performance is monitored for effectiveness. Support training of employees on scientific molding techniques as needed. Report all recognized safety hazards promptly to appropriate personnel. Work overtime when required and adjust schedule as needed to support molding operations. Perform other duties as assigned at management's discretion. Essential Skills High school diploma or equivalent (GED). Knowledge and experience in plastics processing and related equipment. Hands-on experience with injection molding machines, molds, and plastic processing. Advanced scientific injection molding skills. Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand and troubleshoot mechanical systems. Solid mathematical skills to support process adjustments and data interpretation. Demonstrated leadership skills to support operations and guide others when needed. Ability to make independent judgments in the absence of the Process Manager. Good written and oral communication skills with the ability to document processes and issues clearly. Computer literacy, including the ability to enter and manage production data (such as IQMS Real Time inputs). Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a production environment. Ability and willingness to work overtime when required by management. Flexible working schedule to support molding operations across changing needs. Additional Skills & Qualifications Scientific molding knowledge is preferred for enhanced process optimization and troubleshooting. Experience working in a plastic injection molding facility. Background in maintenance, repair, or mechanical troubleshooting of molding equipment and robotic systems. Familiarity with continuous improvement practices and cost-saving initiatives in manufacturing environments. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Waukegan, IL.
