Job Description

Company Profile Universal Machining Industries, Inc. (UMII), located in Muenster, Texas, is a manufacturing organization dedicated to value-added CNC milling and CNC turning processes and assemblies. UMII utilizes state-of-the-art machine tool technology along with experienced personnel to produce machined components and assemblies for the Aerospace and Defense Industries. UMII has been in business for 26 years and is expanding our capabilities to include chemical processing. This will include Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection, Anodize, Chemical Film, Primer and Painting. UMII is seeking to add to our team an experienced Senior Chemical Processing Engineer to implement and manage this new endeavor. The Senior Chemical Processing Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of our chemical processes, quality control, customer satisfaction, and overall performance. Position Summary The Senior Chemical Processing Engineer will be responsible for development, implementation, and optimization of chemical coating processes including chemical film, anodize, prime, paint, and fluorescent penetrant inspection. The Senior Chemical Processing Engineer will work cross-functionally with operations, quality, and engineering teams to develop best practices, procedures, and techniques, to support the implementation of highly automated, safety-oriented processes in an innovative manufacturing environment. Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement and optimize chemical processes (chemical film, anodize, prime, paint, fluorescent penetrant inspection, etc.)
  • Develop and maintain process documentation including SOPs, PFMEAs, Risk assessments & safe chemical handling procedures.
  • Monitor and analyze chemical process parameters to identify and resolve quality, yield, or efficiency issues.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Engineering, Quality, Operations, and Safety) to scale up new materials and technologies.
  • Manage the wastewater treatment system.
  • Supervise and support a team of technicians in executing all chemical processes efficiently and effectively.
  • Foster a safe, collaborative and positive work environment to enhance employee productivity and engagement.
  • Set performance expectations and identify opportunities for skills development.
  • Obtain NADCAP and Customer specific certifications.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations (e.g., NADCAP, AS9100, REACH, RoHS, OSHA) and company safety standards.
  • Lead root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for process deviations or failures.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives using Lean methodologies.
  • Support audits and provide technical input for customers and regulatory inquiries.
  • Develop and manage process Safety and environmental programs for waste disposal and waste filtration.
  • Perform Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA) and develop Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA) on new production processes.
  • Maintain and improve supplier vendor quality to include material reviews, audits, corrective actions, and continuous improvement.
  • Operate within our existing Quality Management System.
  • Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.
  • Other duties as required.
Preferred Skills Experience with NADCAP-accredited processes. Knowledge of environmental regulations related to chemical handling and waste treatment. Prior experience working with chemicals in a safe manner is a plus. Prior experience conducting manual & automated titrations, PH measurements & other process metrics to maintain process chemistry.
Level III NDT Certification Qualification:
Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Chemical Engineering or related field preferred. 2-5+ years of experience in chemical process engineering, preferably in aerospace, defense, or high-tech manufacturing. Strong understanding of surface treatment processes such as anodizing, chemical film coatings, chemical etching & cleaning processes. Experience with statistical process control (SPC), root cause analysis (RCA), and failure mode effects analysis (FMEA). Proficient in engineering software tools and data analysis (e.g., Minitab, MATLAB, Excel). Excellent communication, project management, and team collaboration skills.
Working Conditions :
This position typically spends 50% of work time on the production floor and 50% of work time in an office environment. Intermittent exposure to moderate noise in an indoor manufacturing environment. Occasional travel to customer facilities, vendor & training sites required.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to thirty-five (35) pounds on an intermittent basis. Must be able to stand, walk, bend, squat, climb, kneel, twist and work at heights on an intermittent basis. Requires hand manipulation including simple grasping, pushing, and pulling of materials. Must be able to reach and work above and below the shoulder level. Must be able to work with and around forklifts and hazardous machinery. Must be able to wear all the required Personal Protective Equipment.
