Manufacturing About the Role Brown & Haley is seeking a hands-on Process Engineer to serve as the technical lead for our food manufacturing processes. This position will have a direct impact on the performance, reliability, and continuous improvement of our processing and packaging operations.What You'll Do:
The Food Manufacturing Process Engineer is the technical lead for all food manufacturing processes at Brown and Haley. Ownership of processing and packaging lines functionality- Learn and maintain process knowledge of the processing and packaging lines. This person will become the expert in how best our equipment should be operating to make our products.
- Working in conjunction with our in-house programmer and mechatronics specialist, use Ignition SCADA software to set up specific Tags to collect, analyze, and report relevant data.
- Be available 24/7 for questions from the production team. Handling of commercialization activities on behalf of manufacturing
- Ensure that new products will function on our lines, and perform any tests required to improve our confidence.
- Ensure the production inline printers function as they should and that any relevant data is available to the operators. Run projects to improve processes or expand our capabilities
- Run small to medium sized projects to make point improvements to break bottlenecks, improve quality, or add additional functionality.
- Coordinate contractor work, ensuring they meet all company safety and GMP requirements.
- Work within a team to specify, install, and startup any new production or packaging lines.
- Work with the maintenance team to ensure they know what parts they should stock and what PMs they should be performing to keep our equipment running trouble-free. Documenting and Training for company success
- Document all findings to create a legacy process engineering knowledge base.
- Create SOPs, training documents, etc. as required to support production management.
- Review and update our Operator Skills Checklists.
- Train new and existing operators on how to better run their equipment, in conjunction with our Operator Skills Checklists.
- Responsible for Food Safety.
- Other duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For:
Education Bachelor's degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related field. High School Diploma or GED preferred in addition to the required engineering degree. Experience Minimum of 3-5 years' experience doing engineering or similar work in a Process environment. Food Manufacturing experience is preferred. Chocolate, compound coating, hard crack candy, or other confectionary experience is preferred. Previous experience with Ignition SCADA software is preferred. Technical Skills- Must be competent in use of one or more AI models to manipulate data and draft documentation required.
- Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams required.
- Moderate skills in AI-assisted programming in Python preferred.
- Must understand and be able to apply basic engineering principles, including but not limited to: Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, Mass Transfer, Mass and Energy Balance, Statistics, and PID Controls.
- Must be able to size pumps and heat exchangers, create and interpret basic P&ID drawings, and write reports explaining in plain English how such systems work.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills. This individual will work cross-functionally with operators, maintenance staff, and management. They need to have the skills to build rapport with all of these groups.
